dressed up as speed racer for a library party!
okay but after speed has won the prix a few times, he starts up a charity to help trans youth. to help provide people with financial support to help them transition, and just in general provide more information about trans stuff. he’s the best damn driver in the league, and doesn’t really like to be infront of camera’s/in the news, but when he does he helps bring to light corruption in the league, and also speaks out and brings awareness to trans issues.
After Speed wins the Grand Prix, and after he's done being interviewed, photographed, gone on talk shows, and everything, the first thing he does is gets his top surgery.
speed racer was probably such an angry and sad teenager though tbh.
but can you imagine? speed racer: the first transgender grand prix winner.
I feel kind of bad for Sprittle tbh
Sprittle never got the chance to know Rex. Assuming the boys are all 10 years apart, then Sprittle was either a few months old when Rex died, or not even born yet.
He grows up in a home with family pictures that came before him, hanging on the walls. They have Mom, Pops, a younger Speed, and an older boy who Sprittle doesn’t know.
Sprittle is constantly hearing stories about Rex. Every year the Racer family probably drives up to his grave and they sit and have a lunch that Mom packed and they all talk about him. Everyone in the family laughs and tries to hide their tears, but Sprittle just sits and listens.
It’s hard to mourn for someone who came and left before you, and it’s like Rex is a ghost who haunts everyone in his family except for him.
The first time he met his eldest brother was when he was hidden behind a mask, and the moment Sprittle saw him, he ran away screaming in melodramatic fear.
It’s hard to get information out of his family because with the questions he asks, there’s always a look of pain that comes with it. When he’s old enough to use a computer all it takes is a simple internet search of the name of his brother to find stories claiming him as one of the dirtiest, worst racers in the league. There are articles about his death, and the criminal allegations that went with it. He can only look at them for a while before turning off the computer.
There’s a tension in the Racer family. He was born into a family with broken hearts.
After Sprittle was born, young Speed almost resented him, viewing him as a replacement for his dead brother. Mom and Pops didn’t know what to do with just having lost one son and then having another. But the moment they take Sprittle home, they realize that he is just what the family needed.
Sprittle is funny and bright and releases the tension in the family. He’s a troublemaker, but he always means well. Just like how he’s always there to help get Speed out of trouble, even if he’s scolded for hiding in the Mach 5 afterward, he is always looking out for his family. He keeps the Racer family together and they wouldn’t be whole without him.
Everyone misses Rex, and Sprittle regrets the chance to never have known his brother. but he helps remind the Racer family they’re going to be okay.
I bought the Art of Speed Racer (2008 movie) and it included the script which includes a lot of great scenes that didn't make it into the final cut of the film. These parts happen during the Grand Prix at the end of the movie and they made me really happy.
I love speed racer so much. I love my ptsd suffering, trans, fast son. he's so brave n morally driven and he makes me want to be braver than I actually am. He's so important and I love him so much.
