The screenwriter and director of that awful Billie piper mansfield park said in interviews that fanny was a “bad heroine who needed to be fixed.” Anyways Stan Mansfield park 1983
I couldn’t find a source for your quote but fuck, I sure as hell believe you. Disgusting. Horrible. What a disgrace. I stg... who takes on a project like that when they clearly have no respect for the source material?!?!?!
1983 or bust!!!!
I’m a fifteen year old who’d like to learn self defense. Thing is, I live in a small town and I don’t know how keen my parents would be on letting me go to the city alone for classes. I’ve considered keeping a pocket knife with me, but I’m really interested in learning how to defend myself. Do you have any recommendations for online sources?
My recommendation is using Google to find in real life sources to learn Martial Arts at a reputable school/organization with reputable teachers. This post details how to tell if a Martial Arts school is a good one.
You might be able to convince your parents to sign you up for women’s self defense classes online, or you can ask your friend group/around your school for where other people go to learn Martial Arts and when, then you can arrange to travel to and from the city with them so you are at least not alone in doing this. Or you could ask your parents to sign up for private classes and find an instructor that will come to you to teach you. Worst case scenario you might have to wait until college to learn self defense/martial arts, but then there will be plenty of clubs you can try out and/or join to learn self defense. The wait will be worth it to do things properly and correctly, which is synonymous with safety in Martial Arts.
“Learning” Martial Arts online just means you run a greater risk of developing bad habits, because no one is there to correct you or to enforce proper form, you run a greater risk of injuring yourself because you have a greater risk of learning something incorrectly, you will get no sparring experience because you are watching/copying things alone (and the only thing worse than doing this alone is doing this with an equally inexperienced friend, because now you are injuring more than just yourself), you have no way to tell if the person posting the videos you watch/copy is reputable or just a fake duping innocent people into thinking they are learning things properly, and you won’t get any experience living Martial Arts Culture, which is unique and endemic to every Martial Arts style and form. Capoeira is playful, Tang Soo Do is militaristic (to me), self defense is serious. If you “learn” Martial Arts without its matching culture then you miss out on its soul, and you won’t really be able to tell if you actually like it or not-going through the moves of an art is one thing, but learning the culture is another matter entirely.
