What I Learned After Playing the NYT Spelling Bee Every Day for Months
Picked up the NYT Spelling Bee sometime last year and have not missed a day since. Took a while to get consistent at Genius but a few things made the difference once I figured them out. Suffixes are underrated. Going through ing, ness, tion, and ment against the available letters almost always finds something that was not coming to mind naturally. It feels repetitive but it works every single time. Longer words are where the points actually are. Four letter words feel satisfying to collect but they barely move the score. A six or seven letter word is worth multiple times more. Changing the approach to hunt for longer words first and collect short ones at the end made a real difference. The pangram changes everything once you find it. The way the letters connect becomes clearer and several other words tend to surface afterward. When I cannot find it on my own I check todayspellingbeeanswers.com for just the pangram reveal so the rest of the puzzle stays intact. The center letter is more of a clue than a constraint. Most of the longer valid words in any puzzle use it prominently. Going back to specifically building around the center letter when stuck almost always shakes something loose. Some additional notes I put together over on Blogger as well for anyone interested — https://spellingbeeplayernotes.blogspot.com/2026/07/a-few-things-that-actually-helped-me.html
I am almost 19 years old and I am still pissed that I caught COVID right before the County Spelling Bee in 8th grade and therefore missed my last opportunity to win.
I need a talented Theatre Girlie to make an edit of Shane Hollander to "I Speak Six Languages" from 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. JUST TELL ME these are not the most Shane-coded lyrics: "To excel in athletics is not difficult if one has the temperament, apparently I have the temperament. Yes, I score some goals So unfazed am I As my life unscrolls Unamazed am I I don't like to brag And I won't 'cause I don't have to" "I achieve my goals So unfazed am I As my life unscrolls Unamazed am I Winning is a job And I get no real enjoyment" THERES EVEN A LINE ABOUT HOCKEY.
