Degrassi Hot take: In Defense of Emma and spinner

Hot take I kinda ship emma and spinner. I know a lot of people are not a fan of Spemma. Even in interviews done Miriam McDonald and Shane Kippel both have said they were not fans of them. Miriam even went as far as to say that she’s thinks like a week after the events of Degrassi take Manhattan that they got divorced and that Jane and spinner would reconnect eventually. Giving what we know from next class they are still together and actually looking to buy a house. Trust me though I get it because I personally wasn’t a fan of them until this rewatch. There are 3 reason typically given to be against them. Reason one Jane and spinner should have been end game. 14 years old me watching this for the first would have agreed. There is even a line spoken by Jimmy that she’s the girl version of him. However looking back Jane wasn’t ready to settle down with spinner. Countless times Spinner tried to take the next step and she wasn’t ready. I mean I get it she only 18 and he’s 20, a lot of people aren’t ready to settle down that young. However look at the fact that she basically broke up when he didn’t get into police college, they wanted different things for the their lives. You could say maybe years down the road they reconnect but I don’t see Jane ever return to Toronto, she would build a life in California, so that’s out. I feel like they are to similar and that would lead to a clash of personalities. Reason 2 and it’s a big one Semma, Emma and Sean are suppose to be end game. I agree they should be end game, but that’s to perfect, how many people can really say they married there high school sweetheart. Again the argument could be that they reconnect years later, but I think once Sean returns from the military he would just wanna open up his own garage. This one is a lot harder to disprove but I just feel like, we want this one so much that it wouldn’t work out. I know that the Mini’s aren’t cannon but in one of them, emma even says that if she married Sean she would lose her passion and drive to help the world. I just think that they are to different and want different things out of life. 3 the third and final arguable the biggest is that the story was rushed. I agree with this. I think if we had some sorrta set up from before, even then just as friends it would make so much more sense. The writers tried this by having spinner save the project emma did in like season 2 but it was done sloppily, I will give everyone that. I do think however that they balance each other out. One of spinner best qualities is that he supports the people he loves. He would be there for emma, no matter what. Emma would motivate spinner, she’s very determined and that rubs off on everyone around her. I like the idea after moving away from home you Come back and find the love of your life and you settle down and build a life together. All of spinner girlfriends leave Toronto or want to leave Toronto, however I think that Toronto will always be home for Emma and Spinner need a women like that who see the value in Home. I think because of how spoppily it was done that it lost some of its potential. I know a lot of people disagree with me and that to most Jane and spinner & Emma and Sean are end game but I like this idea of unpredictable and not having the prefect most expected match be the one you end up with. I mean the other thing helping me prove this argument is the fact that they are still married in the next class. My head cannon is that she convinced spinner to take some management courses at TU and he did and now he owns the DOT. Emma is working for a grass roots climate change activist company, they have 3 little kids and while Emma running around saving the world spinner is at home with the kids, but ultimately at the end of day she comes back home to spinner and the kids. I know I’m gonna get flack for this but this just how I feel.
