Splendid Astoria: Behind the Scenes

Okay, so I got a little behind this week because: 

1. Last week I was on vacation. 

2. I am working on some really awesome writing projects “write”  now. Awwww. Cute. 

But seriously, I am also finishing a new post, which should be done by this weekend, so I thought I’d show a sneak peak in the name of education. I love education!

The photo is not great because I’m, regrettably, not very skilled at taking photos of my work. I was also working in the sun and didn’t use a filter. But this is the first step of most Splendid Astoria posts: the pencils. Sometimes I start with the writing, like I did for the Dragonfly post. That was inspired by some of the things I feel every September, and I started writing about them, but usually I’m inspired by something beautiful I would like to draw. Technically, this wasn’t the first step of my upcoming post, either. It actually started with a photo Mr. Astoria took for me, and I worked from that. 

That’s step 1. That is probably all I will get done tonight, since I am volunteering with Musicians On Call later. They bring music to bedsides around NYC and other cities, and if that sounds like something you would like to be a part of you should definitely check them out. Anyway, I thought I would share my unfinished work because I enjoy learning how things get made, and I just read an article that explained how sharing photos you think will make other people happy will make you happy. So, this is for all the people who enjoy half-finished pencil sketches of Greek Festivals. I imagine that’s everyone.
