#HASHTAGHIPHOP FEATURED INTERVIEW: K2 Cocky
Stream the “Spicewalker EP” on SoundCloud here: https://soundcloud.com/cockygotbarz/sets/spicewalker-ep
1. Who are you?
I go by K2 Cocky but for years I went by the moniker Cocky da Homo MC. I was repping the Lgbt hip hop scene since 2011 and released my first mixtape in March 2012 and my video Real Men got the attention of A&Rs and industry people.
2. What state are you from and what area do you rep?
I'm repping Rockland County, New York, and I live right down the street from Mahwah, New Jersey.
3. How old were you when you decided to create music?
I started to produce music on computer when I was 12, and by the time I was 18 I was really good at it. I'm in my early 30s now.
4. Who are your biggest influences? Musically and in life?
My music has largely been inspired by the weirdo and horrorcore movements, popularized by Bizarre and Brotha Lynch Hung. But I added my own perverted spin to it over the years. My latest project Spicewalker is inspired by mumble rap, which I grew to be very fond of.
5. What did you want to grow up to be when you were 5?
I remember always wanting to be a rapper and an artist. Not a famous one, I just always wanted to make and put out albums and music.
6. What was your inspiration for the “Spicewalker EP"?
The Spicewalker EP is a continuation of my last full length album Spice Cadet, which can both be streamed at http://soundcloud.com/cockygotbarz. It's also a segue to a new direction I'm taking next year. I was mainly inspired by trap and mumble for these 2 albums but the third album in the 'Spice' series, Spice World, will have lots of electronic elements. The whole spice theme is a play on the K2 drug and feeling like you're in outer space when on that shit.
7. Describe what one of your shows is like for someone who has never been to one?
I rarely perform live due to agorophobia and fear of crowds but when I do I get the crowds going on some real shit.
8. Let us know about some your future short term/long term goals for yourself.
Ive just finished my next project Spice World, which is a blend of post-pop, industrial and big beat electronica. I'm gonna drop it next year because I'm eyeing cassette and maybe even a lathe-cut record pressing of the album. It's an intense and exciting project, very different from my other work as K2 Cocky.
9. What is your favorite song out right now? What is your favorite song of all time?
Lately Drakes new double album has been on repeat in my crib, as well as Gunna' s recent mixtape. I don't have a favorite song but a few of my favorite albums include 2pac's Makaveli and Mobb Deep's Murda Muzik.
10. Where can people find you?
My main website is https://cockaveli.bandcamp.com but I'm also on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/cockygotbarz. My IG & Twitter is @cockydaphomomc.
11. Anything else you want us to know?
Check out my two projects Spice Cadet and Spicewalker and look out for Spice World next year!
