I don't know if your the right person to ask this, but I've been thinking about getting an ackie monitor (not as a first reptile, i have lots of experience with lizards and snakes) and I never cohabit any of my reptiles, but in doing research on ackies I've seen a lot of people house two or three together. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this? Do they do well or even better in pairs? or are people just misinformed? Again, I don't know if your the person to ask but thought i'd try.

Hey, I’ve never owned ackies. I’ve handled them many times because I have friends who own them but I’m not an expert on their care.

Some monitor species live in some sort of group situation in the wild and are fairly social animals (for reptiles). Ackies are one of those species. Overall they seem to do very well in pairs (one male and one female) or trios (two females one male), but they should be purchased together as hatchlings. In a group situation they will of course need a very large enclosure! They seem to do well as individuals as well.

However, I am definitely not an expert at monitor keeping -- the only species I have care experience with is savannahs. (I think ackies are some of the cutest monitors I have ever seen though.... I handle them every chance I get!)

@varanusindicus keeps monitors, and I know @dragonsong93 has an ackie! Maybe they or others can help with more information, corrections, or details!
