Tales From '85 Trailer
Full Disclaimer: I don't plan to actually watch the show, but I didn't immediately see other people analyze the trailer on my feed, so I decided to do it myself.
Random New Club That The Party's In???
Idk if that's what it's supposed to be, but Lucas holds up a box that says H.i.C., and Dustin's wearing a hat with the same thing, so clearly they chose to add it for a reason, because if it was just the box, whatever, but they made Dustin wear it???
I couldn't get the thing to show in good enough quality, though, so all I can make out is club. I'm assuming the H is Hawkins, but the i is idk. Imagination?
It doesn't make sense that there would just be a club in the middle of s2 and 3 though that's never mentioned again.
Initially, I thought it was supposed to be an offbrand version of Hi-C, which had an Ecto Cooler flavor in 1989 for a Ghostbusters tie-in (it was originally called Citrus Cooler), so maybe it's just a little Ghostbusters reference, but the club part is throwing me off because Hi-C doesn't stand for anything?? Why not just leave off the words underneath H.i.C.? Why make it stand for a club?
2. Tungsten
Going back to Dustin's clothing, his shirt has W and Heavy Metal on it.
W is Tungsten on the periodic table, and while it is a heavy metal, it's not the heaviest. It's the 7th heaviest (It was a 7???)
Tungsten's also used in incandescent light bulb filaments. Lights are how people communicate from the UD.
3. Walkie Talkie
This walkie talkie is a GAD-0S7. Even if I read it wrong and it's an R instead of an A, or a 5 instead of an S, it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't exist.
Normally, I'd be like whatever, they're avoiding copyright, but the actual show uses real walkie talkies, so idk is it different for the animated one? And why not use some letter number combo more similar to the one in the show?
Also, the layout of the actual walkie and the animated one are different, and I don't know how intentional that is.
4. Polaroid
They really got rid of the little bit of gay rainbow on the polaroid too /j
Also, Curiosity and Voyager are rovers (yay! I get to space nerd out again. spiritgate real??)
Voyager was in the 70s, so that's fine and makes sense.
Curiosity, though? That was like 2011. I was in elementary school going to the library everyday to get on the NASA website and check the updates on that rover.
The idea was pitched in 2004. All of those are definitely after 1985. A quick Google search could confirm that?
Timeline is weird confirmed?
5. Friend??
Speaking of weird af timeline, who tf is this??? When did they have this friend? Why is said friend never brought up in the actual show? Even if Friend died, I feel like they would be affected?
Why is El able to be out and about with Friend when she's supposed to be hidden from everyone? Like, do they just instantly trust Friend for some reason?
Why does Friend look like that? Friend would be bullied to oblivion in Hawkins. That's some modern video game ahh character.
Also, the amount of conformity orange clothing.
And Dustin's hat changed (not the colors, just what's on the white part, so is it Vecna color change/item change stuff or is it just they decided to give him two hats that are almost identical other than the logos?)
6. New Monsters
I feel like if they had to face new UD monsters, they would bring them up at least once in the show.
Also, a pumpkin? Like what Jane trains with in s5? Like conformity orange?
2nd pic lowk looks like the Temple Run monsters
7. Inconsistent Shots #1: Car
We start with Steve and Dustin. Dustin's hands are empty, no map anywhere in sight. Both are wearing blue (Mike) with orange (conformity). Although, Steve's might be yellow and his orange-ness might just be the lighting (but in that case, it's Byler colors and it's Steve using his gaydar)
Next shot, vine monster (that's never brought up in the actual show whenever they're walking around the UD stepping on vines) coming for Dustin, and he has a giant map fully unfolded in his hands.
When did he have the time? Also, they saw the attack coming, so it's not even like he would have grabbed a map in the split second he had and had the time to unfold it.
8. Inconsistent Shots #2: Explosion
Bomb explodes, and I didn't screenshot, but Lucas and Max are next to each other when it goes off, and they land together too.
Then, we look at Mike, Will, and Dustin, and that's where the inconsistencies are.
First of all, Mike is completely about to fall, but then for some reason after we cut back from Lumax, he's running before falling? Whatever, maybe he got his balance for a little bit before falling.
The real big thing is Will's disappearance. The Vanishing of Will Byers. (Remind anyone of him being erased in the finale credits? Also just in the entirety of s5, let's be honest, because they say it's his show, but then forget to let him really join in the fight, and forget his hivemind connection during the whole final fight??)
Will is between Mike and Dustin when the explosion begins, but then he's gone. Where'd bro go? Did they forget to draw him in?
9. Inconsistent Shots #3: Bike
First of all, when Mike shows up to El's door, we don't see his bike, including in other perspectives of the shot, but maybe it just isn't shown from where we're looking.
Next, we see that if Mike does have a bike, it should be 4 bikes total: Will, Mike, Max, and Lucas.
That's what the next shot starts with, and you see their 4 bikes go over the hill.
Next shot: All of a sudden Friend is there??? Why??? When???
Also, Will bike faster dude. You went from 2nd to 5th when there were only 4 to start with.
Also, Lucas and Max switched positions.
Idk tho maybe it was just a longer time skip between the shots than it seemed like? Because from the impact of Mike's bike when he lands right before the screenshot I took of the second shot, it seems like he just landed from a height, like maybe from their hill jump??? But then that gives like no time at all between shots
10. ByLeR <3
Byler green lighting. That's all I have to say.
Genuinely though, I don't recall the UD being associated with green lighting before though, so like...where's this coming from?
If someone wants to analyze the bulletin board or whatever, be my guest, but I don't have the patience to unblurrify everything.
11. Coke
Who's this dude? Am I supposed to recognize this place/people?
There's a CocaCola vending machine in the back. So is copyright not an issue? or maybe just not for coke?
12. Time References
Something from the UD survived last year. Last year: 2025. Vecna's not really dead, and the final battle was fake?
The big snowstorm is coming next week? Trailer released Feb 2. One week later is Feb 9, but technically, this whole week has been the next week. Superbowl is Feb 8 (pretty much a week).
Big snowstorm = avalanche???
That's when they'll start the campaign. The ad campaign? Advertising the real finale is coming??
Also, Tales from 85 is supposed to release in April. April is when Billy met Max, which was a big part of Max's Vecnaing. April is Mike's bday. April is also when the military started its occupation of Hawkins.
So maybe there is no tales from 85 and that’s just when the actual ending gonna be released or something idk
12. Will's Hammer
It's giving circus....all those circus things in BTS...
Also, maybe there's something to analyze in the scratches?? Idk like the Xs or is that reading too much into it?
Will the Wise star on the hammer.
Also, Will wearing Mike color.
13. The Woods
The woods hide a lot of mistakes? Like all the ones in the finale and in this trailer?
Also, if anything happens to her, then the woods hide a lot of mistakes....El supposedly died, therefore, there are hidden mistakes?
Also, the woods was where the party goes over the plan for the (im blanking on the word, but the thing where they send Hop into the UD to play hide and seek with Vecna), and that goes majorly wrong (a mistake if you will).
The woods are also where Will and Robin see the mandala and decide to have Will tap into the hivemind. Maybe that was a mistake and allowed Vecna to use Will as a spy for more than his attempt to get Max in the hospital?
Also, the deer head that other people have talked about the symbolism of
14. Coat
Need a coat to keep warm bc he likes it cold
also the symbolism of jackets and Mike Queerler feelings
And hello neighbor ahh hopper
15. Water Tower
The only water tower I remember from the show is the one outside their school I think, but maybe I'm wrong. Also, it didn't look like this. It was more egg shaped.
Maybe they have a second water tower for some reason? Does anyone know if it does look like this?
And it's hard to read the established year, but does anyone know what year Hawkins was established and if the half of the numbers showing would match up with that?
16. Music
Every step I take reminds me of just how it used to be
How the memories used to be before they got messed with by Vecna?
There's always something there to remind me.
Remind you what? That things are off? That it's a fake recreation of the past made by Vecna?
That's what it's doing, trying to add in Friend, add new monsters, forget Will a couple times, make m11 seem happy in their Snow Ball picture
More parts of the song:
And every step I take recalls how much in love we used to be. Oh, how can I forget you?
Will being forgotten/erased, but he's still there haunting the narrative. The painting is always there to remind Mike.
I was born to love you, and I will never be free. You'll always be a part of me.
Mike is Will's heart, and I'm sure Will is Mike's too.
17. Outfits
Why Lucas also twinning with Steve and Dustin?
Also, is it orange?
18. Vine
Does this shape of the vine mean anything? Or is it just an S for stranger things or something?
19. Jane Being Outside
The woods is one thing...like maybe Hopper was like whatever, no one comes close by here, but (unfortunately I reached pic limit, but trust) the Wheeler's lawn is an entirely different thing.
El was having a snowball fight with the party of the Wheeler's lawn, which I'm happy she's getting some happy childhood memories, but why tf you outside in a neighborhood? How did Hop allow this?
Also, while I was checking if they put her tattoo on the left arm (which they did), I found out the tattoo wasn't there at all during Jane's death scene in the actual show. Or maybe I just didn't see it?
20. Text Cards
(Is that what the things that show words on the screen are called?)
They say Something Survived in '85
Ignoring the in '85 part, the next word spoken (and the only word before the Steve and his date quick comedy segment) is El. El survived. She's not actually dead in the epilogue?
Also, in '85, the deaths are Alexei, Billy, and the version of the MF they fight (I think that's all of them). I don't see them bringing Alexei back. Billy also probably no. The MF though, it's also thought to have died on the same day El dies in the finale. Maybe they both survived?
