still a w.i.p but- finally a sketch of The Boys. Butler is thoroughly unimpressed with whatever shenanigans he's now having to carry Jon away from.
Spirovoi thought-
Butler, carrying an injured Jon out of danger- when he’s hurt badly enough that he’s lost all his snappish fury, the man finds that he’s worryingly quiet, frail-feeling in his arms. Thin and light and so unlike the proud, cunning criminal he’s come to care for.
Jon, trying with all his might to drag Butler’s unconscious body out of harm’s way, out of the line of bullet or fire or some other grievous danger. Every muscle is screaming with the effort, and every criminal instinct within him is howling that he needs to leave him and run, but Butler has put his life on the line for him, and Jon is desperate to save him, even if there’s no real chance of him carrying him out of there.
Butler: You are so, so short.
Jon:… put some inches in me, then.
Butler:… what?
Jon: You heard me.
Understandably, Butler doesn’t really feel like telling Jon his full name. Jon doesn’t particularly care, but is curious.
Therefore, the agreement becomes that if Jon can actually guess Butler’s name correctly, he’ll confirm it.
Jon’s guesses so far have been wildly off the mark, but he’s getting really into figuring it out and has started doing research to find more likely ones. Butler almost appreciates the effort.
Jon and Butler thought of the day:
Jon picking fights and just. Running behind Butler. Nobody’s gonna fight him, he knows that- until Butler moves away because “You started this, you stupid bastard, I will not finish it for you.”
(Sometimes Jon does it just when he’s nervous, though, and at those times, Butler will begrudgingly allow it because to some extent, Jon’s nerves and paranoia aren’t entirely his own fault. Besides, it’s easier to keep an eye on him that way).
I’m sorry but I saw this image and instantly knew that this is the kind of shit that Jon texts Butler
You want the scruffy villain? Fine but you gotta take the best and worst parts of him and the worst part is not the criminal one.
It’s shit like this.
Thought of the night:
On a rare night in which Jon has successfully convinced Butler to bodyguard for him, something goes wrong and the two are kidnapped.
They get away relatively unscathed (or perhaps battered and bruised?), but find that they are far from home and with no way to immediately get home. Thus, they have to work together to find their way back, even with Jon entirely out of his element (and not happy about losing control of the situation) and Butler with none of the Fowl resources he finds he’s come to rely on in his many years at Artemis’s side.
Silly Spirovoi thought of the day:
During a surprisingly deep conversation, Jon offhandedly mentions that sometimes he wonders where he would have wound up if he had taken a road that would have led him to a ‘normal’ life, something he’s sure Butler understands.
And Butler brings up his little cottage from when his charge decided to vanish for two years, that he occasionally takes a weekend to visit and just… cosplay as a Normal Guy for a bit. Garden and shit.
