Spite being torn from the fade before he was implanted into Lucanis from Chapter 4 of As The Crow Fly's

(Its been a while but here is Chapter 7 - Dellamorte (18+)

Summary: Lucanis, Spite and Rook enjoy a lazy morning, but there breakfast is interrupted when the Caretakers delivers an urgent missive from Villa Dellamorte, Caterina was on her death bed. what follows is a mad rush to the villa and a heart breaking goodbye, Lucanis helps spite understand death and Illario finally gets a little respect from his fellow crows, and through the pain of there loss something new blossoms, Amika comforts Illario and for the first time in his life he realises he is in love.

snippet: It was raining as they carried her coffin, Lucanis was stone faced, Illario was the same they took the front, Spite, Viago, Taie and Dr Frances took the other handles, the proceedings where sombre, crows from every house were here, all paying there respects to the Dellamorte Matriarch, the one who lost everything but still kept the Title of Fist Talon before handing it to her grandson Lucanis 2 years ago now.

Nobody spoke as the last remaining Dellamortes led the procession down to the crypts. They gently lowered the coffin to the dais before moving into position. Illario stood his head held high, he didnt care that most houses looked down on him. Caterina was still his grandmother. he deserved to be here. Lucanis patted his shoulder before moving to the podium.

"As i am sure most of you know, Caterina was not a kind women, she was ruthless and clever and a damn fine crow." Lucanis started, his voice steady. he could feel Spite and Altara offering him strength. he lowered his gaze. "when she first named me first Talon, I did not want it. I may not have always agreed with my grandmother, but I now understand what she wanted when she passed that title to me." He looked over the crows gathered, his eyes settling on Viago and Teia for a moment. They nodded, offering their support.

"She knew the crows needed to change, but she knew in her heart she would not be the one to do it. You may not all agree with my methods, but nobody can argue with the prosperity the crows now enjoy." Several crows nodded, some muttering agreements under their breaths. "Caterina was a crow till the end. I will mourn her, we all will, but this is not the end of the Dellamortes, it is not the end of the crows. This is just the beginning." His eyes scanned the crowd "May she never be forgotten," the crowd repeated, then cheered. "Long live house Dellamortes," They cheered. Lucanis looked confused for a moment, then smiled. "Long live the Dellamortes," he whispered before stepping down from the podium to join Illario.

Chapter 3 is up - Poor Spite has far more trauma than anyone realised, poor Frances has no idea what he did wrong and Lucanis realises he might have to tell a story he had been avoiding for over a year. Illario struggles with guilt and finds comfort in the arms of his grandmother something he never thought he would have, she is hiding something but perhaps there was a chance to heal some of the wounds between them.

Summary: Dr Frances finally meets Professor Emmrich Volkarin, the older man is not what he had imagined but still finds himself star-struck after all he was a hero of The veilgaurd. together they discuss Spite and the Good Dr tries to run some tests with Spite's permission however Spite's reaction to his tests shocks them both and they realize Spite had some things to work through before they had any hope of understanding his condition. they realize that a story needed to be told and the only one who could tell it was Lucanis, it was time to face the Ossuary one more time.

chapter 5 Is up everyone

Summary: Some conversations are hard, others reveal more than you realise, Illario finds himself in unknown territory, Amika somehow saw through the mask he wore and it left him feeling unarmed, meanwhile Dr Frances and Caterina have a hard Conversation about her health while Lucanis and Rook help Spite who is feeling homesick for the fade and grow closer in the process they also discover Spite can give Rook wings much to everyone's surprise.

Lucanis let out a long sigh, the bath in their rooms really was a wonder, the temperature of the water was always perfect, he leaned back against the edge his head tilted back in relaxation, his arms spread out on the sides, all his aches and pains draining from him as the scent of lavender and honey wafted around the room, the room slightly foggy with steam. Spite sat in the water and stared at it, he had not said a word since they had got in the bath, Altara was sat next to Lucanis reclined against the side, the milky water obscuring the top of her breasts.

She looked over to Spite. "You can come closer you know." She teased making Spite didnt look up, she frowned leaning forward his face was blank his eyes were empty. "Spite are you ok?" She moved from her spot to sit in front of him, "Spite?" she asked again her voice rising in alarm making Lucanis look over. "What's wrong?" He asked moving to join them in the deeper part of the bath, Spite was not moving, like he had disappeared into himself "Spite." Lucanis called to him but he didnt respond, they exchanged a look of worry, it wasn't like Spite to not respond at all, even at his worst he would at least talk to them.

Lucanis felt his heart begin to race, Emmrich's words echoed in his head. "We do not know if this body is permanent." He had said when they brought him back, he felt his stomach drop as he reached for him, placing his palm on his shoulder and gently shaking him. "Spite talk to me...please!" His voice trembled with emotion, Spite blinked then looked up at him, Lucanis felt relief reaching for his cheek and stroking it gently. "Spite are you ok?" He asked and he nodded slowly as if he was unsure. "Come here." He said pulling Spite into his arms, then it was like a damn breaking and Spite let out a wail of pain.

Rook wrapped her arms around them both. "It's ok Spite, We are here." He trembled in their arms, soft cries echoing in the room with the occasional sniff, Rook rested her forehead on his back "Let me in." She said softly, Spite stiffened in their arms "Can't." He cried. She looked up and met her husband's eyes, he looked pained. "Spite let us in, we talked about this, you don't have to deal with it alone." Spite cried out fresh tears falling down his cheeks as he opened the bond. They both gasped at the pain, he was spiralling, memories of a strange distorted place that could only be the fade flashed across the mind's eye, it was silent and calm, strange lights and shapes moving around the strange landscape, floating structures moving in the background, Lucanis pulled back slightly from Spite. "What was that?" He asked and Spite buried his face in his chest. "Home." he cried, they both looked at eachother feeling their eyes sting.

Chapter 4 of As The Crow Fly's is up - WARNING DARK THEMES Torture, as well as implied but not described SA - Lucanis & Spite tell there OSSUARY Story together.

Summary: Lucanis and Spite relive the Ossuary hoping if they told there story they could begin to heal, old wounds are hard to deal with but a burden shared is a burden halved, Illario finally understands the pain he caused, how his actions put Lucanis through hell all because he thought himself more disserving of the title of First Talon, Even Caterina realises the way she raised them contributed to that pain and perhaps more wounds than just the Ossuary are laid bare and start to heal

"I took a ship from Traviso to Minrathous, my target was somewhere in the city according to my sources." He began from the beginning, he needed to build up to the ossuary. Spite gripped his hand tightly and he smiled before continuing "The journey itself was uneventful I had plenty of time to prepare." he looked down at the floor before looking up at Rook, she nodded in encouragement and he continued "I awoke to a strange smell, we were at least a day from marathons, I went to investigate and lost my footing something was wrong." he swallowed and grit his teeth angry at himself for falling into a trap. Rook leaned forward "Miasma?" she asked curiously and he nodded bitterly.

She felt a pang of pain through the bond, he never stood a chance against Miasma "I don't understand." Dr Frances said wringing his hands "You're a mage killer no? Have you never encountered Miasma before?" Lucanis frowned "It is not that I had never encountered it before, I was caught off guard, I was overconfident I felt safe on the boat I was mistaken." He cursed in Antivan and Rook got angry "Frances." she growled he looked down. "Sorry I shouldn't have interrupted please go on." he set his lips in a tight line, and Lucanis sighed. "It's alright mi amore." He gestured for her to calm down and she took a deep breath letting it out slowly.

Flashback

The ship rocked in the waves gently the sea was calm, and they were at least a day away from Minrathous, the ship had laid anchor for the night it was eerily quiet, he had just finished sharpening all his knives, he hoped to finish the contract swiftly, he was eager to return to Traviso, he missed coffee. He felt his eyes drift close, he should get some rest while he could. An hour or so later something stirred him from sleep, a sickly sweet smell was in the air, he climbed from his cot to investigate, it was when he lost his balance and he noticed his eyes begin to itch that he realized what was going on, his eyes widened noticing a deep purple mist crawling under the door, he reached for his daggers but his head began to swim his vision blurring, his heart began to race as he desperately tried to think of anything he could do but then he was falling he reached out for something he wasn't sure but then everything went black.

End of Flashback

Illario fidgeted uncomfortably in the corner, Lucanis looked at him pointedly. "I lost consciousness in seconds the next thing I knew I was strapped to a table with several Venatori leaning over me." Spite hissed in aggravation "Frightened, confused, smells like blood and pain." Lucanis glanced at him in confusion. "Spite?" he asked, Spite had not been there at the beginning. "Was not there, but remember," Spite said his eyes wide Lucanis smiled squeezing his hand. "It's ok Spite, we confront this together." Spite smiled sadly and nodded.

"It was the first time I met Zara." Lucanis said with a small shudder of revulsion "She was so smug, said I was a gift." he looked down unable to look Rook in the eye as he continued "She. She." he covered his mouth and Spite pulled him into his arms. "Hurt him, did not ask, touched," Spite growled as Lucanis took a deep shuddering breath, Illario gasped covering his mouth quickly in shock then cursed and tried to leave. "NO!" Rook said moving to the door in an instant "You don't get to walk away from this." She crossed her arms and stood her ground blocking the door.

Illario cursed again and looked over to Lucanis he straightened up their eyes met and Illario dropped to his knees. "Im so sorry." he said hot tears stinging his eyes "Listen to me Illario." Lucanis said his hands clenched in fists "Know the consequences of your actions." Illario nodded returning to his corner. "She was excited to have a new plaything, or so she told me." He ground out. "I was gagged, restrained unable to move as they cut me." Rook gasped. "They nearly killed me the first night, I was trained to endure torture but even I could not hold out long from blood loss." He swallowed thickly.
