1. the gilded wolves by roshani chokshi
literally, one of my favorite ya fantasy series of all time, when I first read it I was not expecting to love it as much as I do now. don't sleep on this series!!! the characters are absolutely amazing, the magic system, though confusing, is so interesting. read the synopsis, psssslsslslslsl. ik it's not finished but you neeeeed to jump on the bandwagon.
2. the grishaverse books by leigh bardugo
I know this isn't a book per se, but the entire universe created by leigh bardugo, any book written in it, I adore. have I read king of scars? no, but I've seen so many spoilers for it :,D this includes, shadow and bone, siege and storm, ruin and rising, six of crows, and crooked kingdom. if for some reason you haven't read these books, you have to!!! omg pls do
3. the percy jackson series + the heroes of olympus series by rick riordan
the series that got me into reading!! this series means literally the w o r l d to me and will always hold a special place in my heart. if it weren't for PJO, I wouldn't be here today. (not like that, but you know what I mean lol) if you want to get into reading, and you're up for a younger middle grade series, the pjo books are so perfect. i love love love all these characters. Of course, I've read better books than these, but nonetheless, I have so much to thank this series for.
4. the cruel prince/folk of the air trilogy by holly black
how could I not? it's a perfect read if you need an easy to escape in, fae, enemies to lover, novel. HOWEVER!!! read the series for the romance, but don't read the first book for the romance. anyways, cardan and jude are the epitome of a power couple I meaaan. it was fun, do I remember anything that happened in this series?? nope. did still love it?? yes!! i do recommend at least trying it out, it's worth it imo
5. lovely war by julie berry
this. book!! SO UNDERRATED! i love it so so so so much, it's such an amazing novel that made me feel all the feels. as a fan of greek mythology and historical romance, this was the perfect book for me. obviously. ngl, this would be a life-changing movie, with an amazing score MMM. y e s. if you haven't read it I HIGHLY suggest that you do. And also, if you're going to, I would recommend that you listen to it along with the audiobook. it was so amazing. original music???????? full cast????????/ chefs kiss
6. the shades of magic series by v.e. schwab
though I know a lot of people don't really like this series, however, it's one of my faves. the world-building was so amazing, the characters are so fun (although lila suffers a little from "not like other girls" syndrome, I still like her) and the magic system!!!! please read this. technically, it's classified as adult fantasy, but I think the first two books could pass for upper YA. If that's a problem for you. I've made some of my friends read it, and they really enjoyed it!!! if you're a fan of V.E. Schwabb and haven't read this series, you just have to!!
