50 years ago this week, 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered, a science fiction movie years (if not decades) ahead of its time. Stanley Kubrick’s film was adapted by Jack Kirby, who put his visual stamp on it in a 70-page comics masterpiece. Here for #splashwednesday are some full-pagers and spreads from that adaptation. #jackkirby #kirby100 #stanleykubrick #2001aspaceodyssey #2001

Anyone remember this lovely full-pager by George Perez and Dick Giordano? It's from Swordquest: Earthworld, a 1982 comic tie-in to Atari's Swordquest console game series. The games and books worked together as a contest with legitimately cool prizes. Unfortunately the enterprise ran out of steam after three installments (Earthworld, Fireworld and Waterworld), so the grand finale game (Airworld) never came out, and its comic was shelved unfinished. In addition to legit artists and prizes, the comics were written by legit comics scribes: Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway. In all, it was really a noble effort in the sometimes dodgy world of product tie-ins. Happy #splashwednesday folks. . #georgeperez #dickgiordano #swordquest #roythomas #gerryconway #atari
That's a damn good splash page there -- for a back-up story in Amazing Spider-Man #400, April 1995, pencils by John Romita Jr. and inks by his old man. Happy #splashwednesday fans! . #johnromita #johnromitajr #spiderman #amazingspiderman #splashpage

It's #splashwednesday and we'll take it back about 40 years, to Marvel Super Special #3 (winter 1977), an adaptation of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This epic two page spread, befitting the movie's most epic moment, is by Walt Simonson (pencils), Klaus Janson (inks) and Marie Severin (colors). . #splashpage #waltsimonson #klausjanson #marieseverin #closeencounters #closeencountersofthethirdkind #marvelsuperspecial #stevenspielberg
