We know how the inklings were triumphant over the Octarians in-canon after the Great Turf War, however What if they lost? well that's what i'm here to explore!! i know there's plenty of other reverse aus where this happens, so this is just my interpretation of a reverse au, purely going off of my understanding of the lore. Let's dive in! (pun) (please excuse if this is completely inaccurate to the lore, as i said, this is just based off of my understanding of the lore once the Inklings were sent underground, DJ Octavio wouldn't be DJ Octavio, instead, the Octarian prince would be promoted to the King after proving he was worthy via his triumph over the Squidbeak Splatoon (specifically Captain Craig Cuttlefish) The Octarians on the surface would thrive, making a pact with the Salmonids to be like a trading system. The Octarians would offer protection and technology, while the Salmonids would provide food, and loyalty, just being reliable assets to the Octarians. The Octarians also have a pact with the Zapfish, the same one the inklings have in the games we know today, basically the Octarians get power and the Zapfish receive █████. For roughly a hundred years, the Octarians thrived on the surface, being the parallel to the inkling society we know currently. The octarian army still exists, however the soldiers are enrolled at age 16, and only work when there is an absolute need, allowing the octarian citizens to live their lives freely without COMPLETE control over their lives, though the government would be similar to a communist government. Inkling society underground would become scraps (unrelated to scrappers) of a society, being simply a society that exists underground, without a lot of order and structure, falling apart… following the trend of flip-flopping things, the Inklings became similar to what we (i) knew of the octarian underground, sending out inkling soldiers to attempt to acquire the Great Zapfish. It should be noted that there are only inkling soldiers, similar to enemy octoLINGS, not enemy octarians. King Octavio would hear rumors of inklings returning to the surface, starting a group known as “The Seekers” (wow very original), the parallel to our NSS. The Seekers would consist of King Octavio, Agent 1 (Marina) Agent 2 (Shiver because I’m cool like that) and a recruited Agent 3, who is of course Octarian in this timeline. In modern-day Cephalon (Inkopolis), your everyday Octoling participates in casual Turf War, of course! Although, their advanced technology has allowed participants to partake in turf war via the safety of their own apartments (virtually). Ranked modes also exist, exactly the same as the ones we know and love today. Modes such as Tower Control and Rainmaker are especially fierce, due to the octarian love for competition (based off of a headcanon) In the modern story, the inklings have made their way above ground, stolen and hacked into some octobots, AND stolen the Great Zapfish!
