May looked down at her lap as she sat beside Peter, having come home from the funeral just a few hours ago. She was glad it was over - they could grieve in peace now - but the sense of sadness hung heavy in the air. “I don’t think anyone is ever really ready to say goodbye. Even if a death is expected, it still hurts.” But what had happened to Ben had been the total opposite of expected. It was sudden, someone else’s fault, far too premature. “But you did really well today, Pete. You’re so much stronger than you know.”
