Here’s just a lil’ bit of pixel art and a song I made inspired by @possumpilled’s Splintered Sunshine

It is such a beautiful story! Despite the darkness and traumatic events in the story, it shows how you can find light in unexpected places and with unexpected people, and that healing from your pain is never a simple linear journey but a messy one. Mikey is treated sooo much better than the show! Sure he can’t build robots or brute force his way through every situation, but he’s always keeping everyone’s spirits up and tending to the group’s spirit and this story showcases how when he’s not able to do his part in the group, it falls apart. That lil’ goofball is important- Give him his flowers!

Also this story just births an absolute god-tier character and makes Shinigami an instant favourite for me who steals every scene without trying. She’s witty, she’s stylish, she’s a clutz, she can be a bit of a social dumbass SHE’S EVERYTHING! Her and Mikey’s friendship is so lush -Goth girl and golden retriever pairing, hell yeah. I could honestly just read a dumb stoner spin-off with just those two, their dynamic is perfect. I also love how messy their friendship is, in the best way. They both have a chaotic nature about them, but Mikey’s is more in a fun bohemian way and Shini’s is more “I’m going to sacrifice a goat tonight”. And like their friendship also helps them learn more about themselves, so it feels important idk man its just lush

Tonally, this fic is great at being able to take the comedy of a bunch of teenagers hurling juvenile insults at eachother or joyriding around New York City at night but then handle serious and delicate topics with care and grace, never shying away from the messiness of the reality of their situation or settling for simple answers or solutions.

The main thing I love is the character dynamics, they all feel so true and authentic to how they are the show but really building on them more and taking the characters and pushing them to deal with things they’ve never had to handle. No one feels out-of-character or forgotten about, like their own quirks are celebrated and not just shown as like some hate-sponge for the author lol- I always found Leo to be a bit of a gripe in the show, but it makes me respect him a bit more, he’s not just some fake leader playing cosplay, he is taken on the weight of the team team and takes the burden upon himself. And Raph is cocky and a bit of a smart-ass but still shows that subtle way of showing his love- it’s perf! Obviously Mikey and Shini will always hold a big place in my heart cause they’re literally the perfect duo lol- Their hi-jinks just feels like two rebellious nerds who want to rebel and set the world on fire but they have hearts of gold so they settle for like pushing over a vase (just saying they need a stoner comedy)

Anyway! Splintered Sunshine is a beautiful and poetic story and you should read it or else I’m calling the law
