#75 — Which alternate future/universe in canon is my favorite?

I know a lot of people would probably answer Endverse (and I do love endverse!Destiel) but an Apocalyptic world overrun by zombies is a little too dark for me so it doesn't take out my Top spot (no matter how many awesome fics I've read 😍) but it definitely gets an honourable mention. 💖

Because I'm indecisive I'm gonna list my Top 3:

#3 - PURGATORY aka. Purgaytory  (s8)

Aside from the delicious Destiel content (Dean searching for Cas for a year and praying to him every night), Benny being a delight in every sense, and the general comical bickering of our 3 amigos, I love that it gave us purgatory!Dean (his entire journey in season 8 is quality content) as well as the introduction of Monsterland after we were teased with it in season 6.

I am sad they didn't explore the landscape and realm size further, as well as any monster hierarchy, or show us other types of giant/archaic monsters, but plot and budget restraints are understandable and what we did get was gold (the filter was a nice touch too, really helped set the tone and give it a vibe remeniscent of the early seasons). Thankfully there are also awesome fic writers out there exploring the unexplored for us (Redemption Road is a must-read 📖).

Season gr8 is my favourite season and Purgatory is a big part of Why. I'm thrilled they brought it back in season 15 and the introduction of the Leviathan Blossom lends inspiration to what other kinds of botanical life might reside there. 

#2 - THE FAERIE REALM  (s6 + s8)

The aliens-oh-no-wait-it's-fairies! ep of season 6 (6x09) is one of the lightest and (imho) most enjoyable eps of the dark season, and i love the x-files vibe of it. It gives us glimpses of fae realm creatures from Leprechauns and little Elves to Redcaps and Tinks, and we witness some fae magic including being teased with the fix-it of a Leprechaun's magic being able to reach into Lucifer's cage and retrieve Sam's soul with no fuss (i mean WOW, yes I'm intrigued). And let's not forget Dean's brief foray into the realm itself, which means he can now see fairies while others can't (I love coda fics of Dean's time there, and would gladly read more extensive fics exploring the realm, ie. Dean and soulless!Sam in a Canon Divergent adventure).

..which brings me to season 8 (8x11) where we meet fairy!Gilda and witness some dark fairy magic. Is Gilda's world in the same realm as the fairies we met in 6x09? Possibly. I would gladly read an adventure fic where Charlie, Dean and Sam venture into Gilda's realm (and don real warrior garb). I'm sure the MOL have files and artefacts that could be worked into a multi-realm case fic (Dean would be an awesome warrior in a fantasy war). 

Basically I love the introduction of fairies and a fae realm into the SPN 'verse because it lends a different kind of magic than we've seen from the usual witches, demigods, demons and angels. I wish we'd had another episode or two that explored fae lore. 

an honourable mention goes to Oz (because I love Dorothy and the fact that Charlie got her quest). It seems cool, but i prefer the open-to-interpretation-ness of a *fae realm*.

#1 AU!WINCHESTERS WORLD  (s15)

AU!Dean and AU!Sam might’ve been scripted mostly for comedic relief, but the existence of their world is a gift: a world where they drive a pastel fiat, wear expensive fashionable clothes (and manbuns), where people are aware of monsters to the point that cooperations exist to train hunters and get paid handsomely to hunt all over the world..

I mean, I'm sure there have been Alternate Canon fics set in such a world but now it's canon and i just love it! The possibilities are endless, y'know? 

I want a fic exploring their upbringing and hunter lives in this other realm, how society differs and whether any creatures have been enfolded into that society over the years. 

I want a fic of our boys swapping lives with the AU!Winchesters for the duration of a case. 

I want to see what our other beloved SPN characters are like in that AU. 

But to be perfectly honest the main reason I love that AU is because it gave us the beautiful cinnamon roll that is AU!Dean (we must protect him at all costs! 😍) and how contrasted his characterisation is to our Dean. 

I love how the AU!Winchesters appear to be rich&pampered and yet we have to remind ourselves they come from a world with monsters, they come from a life of hunting that takes them all over the world and is "exhausting", they come from a "family business" existence (incorporated). They may appear non-threatening, dress differently, speak differently, not drink beer and all the other differences between them, but they are still world-renowned monster assassins smart enough to jump from one universe to another in order to survive. They're a badass duo I want to read more of.

#6 — Favorite quote?

If I spent a few days on this I could probably give you my favourite quotes from each member of Team Free Will in every season. But first now I'll just give you one from each that has always stuck with me:

SAM  This is how we screw ourselves every time. We make the heart choice instead of the smart choice.

fun fact: @theheartchoice​​ is the name of my Dean/Cas prompts + creations blog because I love this quote so much.

It's from 11x18, and Sam is actually warning Dean against choosing to save Cas first over sacrificing the mission.

I think it embodies what Team Free Will (and furthermore Destiel) is all about: choosing love over duty. They choose to care - about each other, about humanity, about fighting the good fight or goodness in general. The heart choice is the name of their journey.

CASTIEL  Now I realize that there is no righteous path. It’s just people trying to do their best in a world where it’s far too easy to do your worst.

From 10x09. Castiel is talking to Claire, and she notes how different he is from the Castiel she met all those years ago. He's been through much, understands hardship in the mortal workd first-hand, and his journey thus far has changed him for the better. I love how this sentiment captures not just the good fight in general, but his own personal struggle towards independence (from Heaven and their orders) and in finding his own purpose in his place beside the Winchesters, and in this new life he's come to know.

DEAN  You can take your peace... and shove it up your lily-white ass. 'Cause I'll take the pain and the guilt. I'll even take Sam as is. It's a lot better than being some Stepford bitch in paradise. This is simple, Cas! No more crap about being a good soldier. There is a right and there is a wrong here, and you know it.

From 4x22. I struggled to land on a stand-out line from Dean over the years as he has a lot of poignant moments where he shares moving emotional truths, but I like this one as an overall worldly kinda wisdom.

#10 — BROTP?

It's a 3way tie (between the most obvious, I know 😅):

Sam + Dean

Sam + Cas

Dean + Charlie 

I can't possibly capture each friendship in a single gif so I just picked the first ones that the gif library spat out 😂 I'd add more but it's being temperamental). 

I tend to read Destiel-centric fics but I love when these Brotps get decent storytime in the plot and side happenings. Dean and Sam get the majority of screen time together but as for the other Brotps I cherish every scene in every ep they share. 

(Again, I could go into detail about why I heart these dynamics but I'm tired and I'd be typing all night if I tried 💌). 

Cas + Charlie get an honourable mention, even though we didn't see much of their dynamic on-screen I just know they'd be an awesome pair.

#15 — Favorite Monster?

I don't actually have a favourite monster, but I do miss the MoTW eps of the pre-angels-and-demons stuff. I love eps where the season arc isn't pressing down on the narrative, filler eps where they work a case without the pressure of having to save the world or be mentally hampered by some Big Bad out there somewhere.

I love being introduced to new monsters and playing the guessing game of who it is, what they are, and what twists the plot will serve up.

Cases like 7x18 where the boys cross paths with another hunter (Garth!), and shenanigans ensue (drunk boys!) and we get a nice dose of feels (dead!Bobby and the haunted flask) along with an entertaining team dynamic. The Monster itself is a Japanese alcohol spirit (shōjo), ie. something new! and interesting!

And one of the best things about facing a new threat is the boys learning on the go and thinking on their feet, ie. Dean having a Japanese cook bless a pawnshop sword under the "running stream" of a bottle of water is one of those delightful little hehe! hunter moments that makes me smile and makes those case-focused eps even more enjoyable.

#50 — Character I wish I could bring back? 

Hmm.. "bring back" is relative in the SPN multiverse. We've had Jess in a Djinn dream, ghost!Jo, Ellen in an altered timeline, Ash and Pamela in Heaven, Ruby and Meg in The Empty, Bobby and Rufus in a flashback ep, Apocalypse World Charlie and Bobby, Alternate Universe Benny, Rowena outsmarting death at every turn, Billie promoted to Death, a temporarily resurrected John.. 

If you'd asked me before season 15 I might've said Adam or Amara, but since they're both back I have to say I miss Crowley above all else. 

He had the best redemption arc in the whole series because we were with him through his various misadventures as he embarked on a journey of change. 

Season 6 was our first in-depth look at badguy Crowley (and we saw more of season 8), and I really enjoyed his dynamic with Cas. 

Through every season Crowley has had his own stuff going on - Hell, power struggles, Lucifer, Rowena - and through it all we've seen him become more humanised (not unlike Cas) and been privy to his emotional vulnerability and wants, ie. to be a part of the found family known as Team Free Will. 

His witty one-liners and repartee has been entertaining from the jump, and his story arc was explored well (if not wholly) throughout the seasons. 

He's an endearing badguy who turned over a new leaf, and while his last act was indeed a noble one, and the events of season 12 offered some closure to his storyline, I still wish he'd been brought back in some capacity (see the many examples mentioned above). 

He's also an unexpected cutie-patootie, so there's that. 

I don't think he's slated for a return in Season 15, but I'd love to see him make an appearance in a movie or mini series or whatever the future might hold for further production in the SPN multiverse. 

#73 — Who I’d like to play human!impala?

I read a fic once that envisioned Idris Elba (big black beautiful badass) as a human incarnation of the Impala and I've never been able to picture anyone else since 😍 (minus the British accent I think he'd be perfect). It's another instance of wasted potential for a filler ep imho, though I don't think the writers would've chosen a man (for bi!Dean) or even a POC actor, so I'm kinda glad they left this particular thing in our hands. 

Baby and The Colt..

Of course you may argue that Baby should be a woman, or perhaps even non-binary. I say indulge whatever headcanon you want!
