This year, we (Amerie and myself) created Språkvision to celebrate European languages. We had no idea if the idea would take off, but you all made it so much fun to run as a Tumblr contest and we can’t thank you enough for introducing us to great songs from all over the continent.
We’d love nothing more than to stick around and run the contest again next year (if the demand is there), but unfortunately the decision has been taken away from us by real-world responsibilities.
So we’re putting Språkvision up for adoption.
Interested?
It takes some commitment. Altogether, between organising the sign-up poll, keeping track of the entrants, putting together graphics, answering questions and quadruple-checking the results, there’s quite a bit of work to be done. We’re more than happy to take applications from groups if you’d like to share out the workload!
If you’d like to be considered as the new owner of the Språkvision contest, we have a quick form for you to fill out. We also have a couple of requests:
We’d like the name to be kept the same
We’d like the entrants to be limited to Europe
The rule of using official or de facto languages has to stay
Other than that, where the contest goes next is up to whoever we choose to take it on - and we’re choosing based on your ideas.
We’ll announce the decision no later than Halloween, so you’ve a good number of weeks to come up with the reasons you’d be the best caregiver for our pet project here. Can’t wait to see what we receive!

I’m not super great at articulating myself sometimes but I tried to give as true of an opinion as I could!!
Song 1: Israel - Hafuch
I thought this one was really good!! It’s a cool song + deserved better.
Song 2: Greece - Η αλήθεια μοιάζει ψέμα
This song is great, I really love the energy of it. This was a potential top 3 or winner for me so I’m very happy with how it did!!
Song 3: France - Adolescente Pirate
This song is good! I don’t think I gave it any points but I do enjoy the song.
Song 4: Armenia - Dashterov
MY DOUZE WOW HOLY FUCK IT REALLY JUST IT SLAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Song 5: Croatia - Zaljuljali Smo Svijet
I don’t really like Nina Kraljić’s voice to be honest, but this song was nice, I like it better than Lighthouse. I didn’t give this points either but I’m ok with it doing well <3
Song 6: Latvia - Viktorija
This song is so catchy and fun! I really really like this song!!!!
Song 7: Hungary - Balaton
This song is interesting and unique. I don’t hate it but it’s not really a fave of mine, not my sort of music I guess. Hungarian HoD if you’re reading this thank you again for the 12 points <3
Song 8: Romania - Amici
Her voice is nice but I only really appreciate sad ballads if I’m in that sort of mood where I need to hear one. I think I televoted for this one but I legitimately could not remember what I had voted for after submitting everything.
Song 9: Russia - Мирас
This one is cool. I don’t really have strong feelings on it but it’s not bad or anything.
Song 10: Spain - Mas Macarena
I didn’t like this at all sorry :/ It’s like, the original Macarena was just silly and this weird rap remix combination thing is just...what?? I do not understand it
Song 11: Serbia - Ego
Eh, I didn’t really like this one either.
Song 12: Ireland - D'Aon Ghuth Amháin
I think this song is quite special. It feels so optimistic and hopeful, and I feel like I’m safe when I hear it. It’s very good. I can’t remember how many points I actually gave it but I really do think it deserved the win.
Song 13: Germany - Chopin
Wow this song is really catchy, I can’t believe it didn’t score higher?? I think it’s quite good! Oh, and if the German HoD is reading this, thank you again for 7 points <3
Song 14: Ukraine - Університет
This is a nice song! It reminds me of studying in a coffee shop or something, which might be intentional since this song is about university. Something to bounce your leg to while sitting at your desk.
Song 15: Norway - Om igjen
This song is good. Very danceable and fun!
Song 16: Sweden - Tagen på sängen
I didn’t have room to give this jury points (I think it might have been my backup points? I know that probably means nothing) but it was a good song.
Song 17: Finland - Juranoid
That certainly is my song that was sent by me!!!!! Thanks to everyone who gave me points in jury or televote. If you didn’t vote for me or didn’t like my song I don’t really mind or care about that
Song 18: Lithuania - Nauja istorija
This is a BANGER!!!!!!! Lithuania brought such a TUNE!!!!!!!!!! They REALLY DID THAT!!!!!!!!!
Song 19: Italy - Abbracciami perdonami gli sbagli
This was okay I guess? I don’t like the chorus but the rest is fine.
Song 20: Albania - Duart lart
This is okay. Like I don’t really care about it but it’s not bad by any means.
Song 21: United Kingdom - Gwenwyn
This song is really good! Always happy to see a Welsh song in a contest.
Song 22: Estonia - Seitse pühapäeva
Estonia, sweetie, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry a trick ass bitch (me from a week ago) would even say that (”I’m leaving Estonia out of my jury points”) oh my god
Like when I was listening to the songs again during the voting I really started to like this song a lot but it was TOO LATe I hope I had dropped a televote for you at the very least
Also thanks Janek for the thicc 7 points I didn’t deserve that but I love my fans so!!
Song 23: Bulgaria - Ne si za men
This one was pretty cool but I liked other songs better so I ended up not being able to give it points unfortunately :(
Song 24: Iceland - Dönsum
This one was nice. Nothing particularly strong or weak about it I suppose.
Anyway these are my opinions, you can direct all hate mail to http://fangadavenstormvind.tumblr.com/ask! Thanks for reading!
Huge congratulations to the winner of Språkvision 2017. Click ‘Read More’ for a full celebratory post:
Comhghairdeas, Ireland! Just nicking the jury vote with a very impressive score, and then racking up a joint 3rd place finish in the televote, Seo Linn’s uplifting song about togetherness and spirit is definitely a worthy winner.
Why not take another listen to remind yourself of the song - and the beautiful language of Irish - that you, Tumblr Europals, have voted the winner of the inaugural Språkvision contest.
And while you’re at it, please give yourselves huge hugs from us for making this contest so much fun to run. The song submissions right through from NF to Grand Final were great pieces of music, and we’ve loved hearing so many different languages in their truest form: music.
We’ll be back next year - maybe at a different time! - to host another edition of this contest from the green isles of Ireland.
For now, playing us out, it’s your winner: Seo Linn with D’Aon Ghuth Ámhain
Country: Armenia
Language: Armenian
Artist Name: Aram MP3 & Iveta Mukuchyan
Song Name: Dashterov
Song Meaning: A love song in which they run to each other
Below are the points awarded to the 10 countries who received the fewest televotes. The points have been scaled to give equal weighting to the jury votes awarded already. If a country is in bold, their points tally is being updated in this post because they are one of these 10 countries. Their overall score is shown as well as their weighted number of televotes.
