Språkvision 2017 Reviews (+ Rankings)

Since Språkvision is over, I’ve decided that maybe it’s time that I’ve posted my opinions of each of the entries. Alongside, to make this post more unique, I will also do a predictions (my ranking) vs the actual placing of the entries.

I’ve been inspired by @fangadavenstormvind to do these opinions, so go check out her post :)

01 Israel - “Hafuch” by Itay Levy

Mot really my cup of tea, but it didn’t deserve second to last.

Result: 23rd (-1)

02 Greece - “Η αλήθεια μοιάζει ψέμα” by Demy (1 point)

Honestly, this is so much better than This is Love (anything in her discography is but that’s tea for another time). It was underrated in my jury vote, and if I could, I would’ve gave it more points.

Result: 3rd (+7)

03 France - “Adolescente Pirate” by Léa Paci (12 points)

This was my winner! I was hoping this would win, but it got top 10 so I’m glad :) well done to you Aquila!

Result: 7th (-6)

04 Armenia - “Dashterov” by Aram MP3 & Iveta Mukuchyan

I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t a real fan of this, but a couple days ago I started listening and i actually… liked it? it really was a shock that it was top 10 but ya know this song isn’t for everyone.

Result: 6th (+14)

05 Croatia - “Zaljuljali Smo Svijet” by Nina Kraljić

Nina Kraljić’s voice isn’t exactly my liking, which was why I didn’t give this points, but this song was super nice. It did deserve second and I wish I gave it points.

Result: 2nd (+13)

06 Latvia - “Viktorija” by Aarzemnieki

This song is quite catchy and one of those songs you could sing to at a camp fire :)

Result: 18th (-4)

07 Hungary - “Balaton” by Dorogi Péter and Meszes Balázs ft. Odett

This song is unique, and I get that it might not be to everyone’s liking, but it sure didn’t deserve last place.

Result: 24th (-5)

08 Romania - “Amici” by Ilinca (7 points)

When it comes to ballads, you only hit or miss when it comes to me, and this definitely was a HIT! I’m glad ilinca has so much more to offer aside from her yodeling. Reall underrated in Språkvision.

Result: 17th (-13)

09 Russia - “Мирас” by Gulnaz Battalova

I don’t really have strong feelings on this song, but it’s not bad or anything. I like the meaning though.

Result: 5th (+13)

10 Spain - “Mas Macarena” by Gente de Zona ft. Los Del Rio

I really didn’t like this at all, sorry. I mean, I already didn’t like the Macarena and the weird remix with the rapping was just a mess. Not really my liking.

Result: 21st (+3)

11 Serbia - “Ego” by Milan Stanković

Milan Stanković had a glo up!!!! what!?!? more like a glo down, this song is eh.

Result: 20th (-6)

12 Ireland - “D'Aon Ghuth Amháin” by Seo Lin (6 points)

The Irish language is quite beautiful and this song just creates positive vibes all over!! I gave this 6 points and my thoughts on the song haven’t changed since. A well done on the Irish HoD and congratulations on the win :)

Result: 1st (+5)

13 Germany - “Chopin” by Elastiq (3 points)

I guess I favored this song more than Språkvision did. Parody songs are actually funny if done right, and this was done right. Again, another song that was underrated in språkvision.

Result: 19th (-11)

14 Ukraine - “Університет” by Vivienne Mort

I really don’t like coffee shop music but this song is definitely great to listen to when you need some chill vibes.

Result: 9th (+8)

15 Norway - “Om Igjen” by Razika (2 points)

This song was my 9th place and it’s a fun song to listen to. I wish I gave this more points besides two.

Also, #fakeneighbors but #realbros (inside joke between Olivia and I) <33

Result: 16th (-7)

16 Sweden - ”Tagen på Sängen” by Axel Schylström

This was my song. All the songs in my national final were songs I liked so it’s not like I wouldn’t have anything positive to say. The betting poll said that i’d win televote, but the jury vote favored me more.

A big thank you to Israel, Greece, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Germany, Ukraine, Norway (thank you for the douze btw <3), Italy, United Kingdom, Estonia, and Iceland for your points <3

17 Finland - “Juranoid” by Hevisaurus

This isn’t really the type of music i’d listened to :/ but i see why some people might enjoy it.

Result: 12th (+11)

18 Lithuania - “Nauja Istorija” by Mark Les & Moniqué (4 points)

Lithuania just did #that. Moniqué is one of my favorite artists now and I’m waiting for her to represent Eurovision. Such a great song and such a great artist!

Result: 11th (-4)

19 Italy - “Abbracciami Perdonami Gli Sbagli” by Bianca Aztei

This song was right in the middle in my ranking and I wish I gave this points. Such a great song with a great message!

Result: 8th (+4)

20 Albania - “Duart Lart” by Alban Skenderaj

This song is meh. It kind of grew out of me and I’ve started to lose interest.

Result: 22nd (-9)

21 United Kingdom - “Gwenwyn” by Swnami (10 points)

This song is really good! Well done Hendrik for sending in a welsh song. I gave it 10 points in the jury vote and I’m glad it got top 5.

Result: 4th (-2)

22 Estonia - ”Seitse Pühapäeva” by Karl-Erik Taukar (5 points)

This song is quite fun to listen to! I really like the music video and I think that’s why I was actually so hooked on the song. It was one point above me and I’m glad it actually was tbh. Such a bop!

Result: 13th (-8)

23 Bulgaria - “Ne Si Za Men” by Kristian Kostov (8 points)

I’ve listened to this song a couple times – both then Bulgarian and English version – and love the Bulgarian entry a bit more. I wish I didn’t overrate it in the jury vote though, it’s a cool song and all but i started listening and liking other songs a week after after I submitted my jury votes.

Result: 15th (-12)

24 Iceland - “Dönsum” by Fridrik Dór

Nothing like good ol’ funk – I really enjoyed this song and im glad it made top 10. I regret not giving it jury points.

Result: 10th (+1)

Biggest jump: Armenia (+14)

Biggest drop: Romania (-13)

Again, a great job to the @sprakvision admins who organized the contest for us. This was my first contest and it was quite some fun!

Språkvision 2017 reviews/roasts (from Italy's HoD)

Now that Språkvision has ended and post show reviews are a thing I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and give my own thoughts on the songs. Next to some of the countries you’ll also see how many points I gave to them.

This is my honest opinion but I’m not the best at explaining myself so apologies in advance

01. Israel (2 points) - 2nd to last? Really? I wish I gave it more points now but y'all slept on this

02. Greece (8 points) - This is 🔥🔥🔥 and deserved its place. Why couldn’t Demy send something like this to Eurovision

03. France - I’m not going to sugarcoat anything, I hate this song. I’ve heard it before and I hated it then. The chorus annoys me so much, the verses aren’t so bad but I think it’s her voice that does it for me.

04. Armenia (10 points) - This is a banger. 6th is too low and it should’ve finished in the top 3

05. Croatia - This surprised me in terms of its result. I don’t find anything special about it. 90% of the time I just tend to find songs like this forgettable and this is no exception

06. Latvia - Overall this is a nice song but like Croatia it’s quite forgettable to me. It’s kinda cute though

07. Hungary - Uhh this didn’t deserve last? Should’ve finished in the top 20 at least. The Hungarian language is spicy af

08. Romania - I love Ilinca’s voice but sad songs/ballads aren’t usually my thing

09. Russia (12 points) - THIS???? FUCKING SLAPS!!!! I’ve had it on repeat recently and I never get tired of it. Real winner in my opinion but I’m happy it finished in the top 5

10. Spain - Is this basically the 2016 version of the Macarena but with unnecessary rap parts? This is a bit of a train wreck

11. Serbia - Hey it’s the hop hop guy. This is decent. Not amazing but not terrible

12. Ireland (1 point) - I completely forgot about this song during the results show. Though having listened to it again I can kind of see why it won

13. Germany - This is okay? I don’t really know what else to say about it. It’s just okay

14. Ukraine - I wasn’t a fan of this at first but it’s grown on me. Probably should’ve given points to it

15. Norway (3 points) - A really nice song. I especially love the chorus and it should’ve finished higher

16. Sweden (6 points) - This has a feel good vibe about it and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it. Should’ve finished higher

17. Finland - The more I listen to this the more I like it. Another song I probably should’ve given points to but at the time I preferred 10 other songs

18. Lithuania (7 points) - I love the beat to this! Kind of annoying how it only just finished outside of the top 10 because it deserved a lot better. The chorus is 🔥

19. Italy - That me. Thanks for 8th!

20. Albania - This sounds better the second time around of listening to it. It’s just nothing that stood out to me

21. UK - I’m usually into this type of music but I’m not really feeling it. Having said that the chorus is good, also credit for it being in Welsh too

22. Estonia (5 points) - E! E! Okay I love this and I should’ve given it more points. I expected this to finish in the top 10 but it didn’t. Snakes

23. Bulgaria - I used to be addicted to this song. I still like it but I’m kinda tired of it

24. Iceland (4 points) - Like Estonia I wish I gave more points to it. The chorus just bangs

Språkvision 2017 roasts!

Hi, I’m jumping on the trend of stating my opinions on the @sprakvision songs so here we go! I was the head of delegation for Russia, and these reviews are only my opinions of the songs - nothing personal intended towards any of the HoDs or organizers!

Here we go!

1. Israel: Itay Levy - Hafuch

THIS IS SUCH A BOP WHY ON EARTH DID I NOT VOTE foR THIS?? I’m not exaggerating, I remember liking this in the nf, but during the voting period I didn’t care for it that much and I really regret it. The melody, the instrumentation, the vocals, the composition are all on point?? This is just really good. If I were to submit my votes again I would give it like 8-6 points I think. How did we all sleep on it?

2. Greece: Demy - I Alitheia Miazi Psema (10 points)

This song is so,, badass. I’ve been listening to it since last summer and I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I love the instrumentation, I love her voice in this, and just how it all fits together. It’s a breakup/love song, but it’s got so many flavors, it’s angry, it’s a bit melancholic, disappointment and it’s just,,, really good. My favorite of the top three by far!

3. France: Léa Paci - Adolescente Pirate

The funny thing is, I used to really like this song (I first heard it in May/June I think), but something happened overnight (way back then) because all of a sudden all I liked about it was the piano, the piano parts are really good, but I cant get into the rest of the song. I don’t dislike it, but I don’t really like it that much either. It’s cute, though, and I’m glad Aquila got a good result!

4. Armenia: Aram MP3 & Iveta Mukuchyan - Dashterov (5 points)

This is like a textbook banger, amazing composition, their voices sound really good together, really catchy and with a really good production (Aram did it i think?) Should have given it more points but my top was really tight. Glad it finished so high inthe jury, but it was badly underrated by the televoters.

5. Croatia: Nina Kraljic - Zaljuljali Smo Svijet

I was so surprised that this did as well as it did, it just doesn’t have that hook that most contest top placers have, but it’s quite mesmerizing now that I’m listening to it again. I love her voice, and i really liked this song last year. I should probably have given her points; it’s making me all nostalgic.

6. Aarzemnieki - Viktorija (7 points)

Un. Der. Ra. Ted. This is just,, such a bop, it puts me in a great mood, and I really like the song’s meaning too. Should have finished on the left side of the scoreboard AT LEAST.

7. Hungary: BALATON - Dorogi Péter (Intim Torna Illegál), Meszes Balázs (Punnany Massif) feat. Odett

I’m relistening to this, and like I’ve said about everything - I should’ve given this points. It sort of feels like I televoted for this, but I won’t take credit for it because I’m not 100% sure. I really like the instrumental and like Aram and Iveta this duet’s voices go really well together too. Should not have finished last.

8. Romania: Ilinca - Amici

This is a lovely ballad, and Ilinca’s voice is wonderful, there just wasn’t room in this for my top. A solid entry, though.

9. Russia: Gulnaz Battalova - Miras

My entry :) Thanks for 5th place and your 12s Armenia, Italy, and Ukraine! <3 really happy with this result, and the fact that I got to lead in a fan contest for the first time ever lmao.

10. Spain: Gente de Zona - Mas Macarena

A bit of a mess, I liked the new sung part but the rap and the old part felt a bit odd and out of place in the competition. I don’t know what else to say,

11. Serbia: Milan Stankovic - EGO feat. Jala Brat and Buba Corelli (1 point)

A “””””guilty pleasure””” of mine I guess I hate that phrase, I know a lot of people don’t like it and it’s p trashy I guess, but I’ll gladly dance a little to it in my room. HOP HOP HOP.

12. Ireland: Seo Linn - D'Aon Ghuth Amháin (2 points)

I love the vibe of this song, it sounds so optimistic and genuinely happy, and the traditional instruments sound great. I wasn’t expesting this to win at all but now I can totally hear why it did. Great entry. Congrats!

13. Germany: Elastiq - Chopin

I love the instrumentation, and the choruses, but I’m not sure about the rap verses, tey’re throwing me off a bit and I can’t really get into the song. Not my cup of tea.

14. Ukraine: Vivienne Mort - Університет (12 points)

REAL WINNEr

CARPE CARPE DIEM!!! (…)BOZHEE O BOZZHEEE

Anyway, I love Vivienne Mort and their entire discography, I love their use of instruments and their melodores and this one!!! It just slaps!!!!! Dana has such a wonderful voice too, and I just…love the musical environment Tindra that doesn’t make sense - what I’m trying to say is that I love the use of instruments and the production and how everything was put together I just love Vivienne Mort maybe it was cheap of me to give 12 to my favorute bands, but I love this song okay and all their songs have different ideas and instruments and vibes and I love everything they’ve ever made oh wow there i said it.

15. Norway: Razika - Om igjen

Now that I listening to this, it’s quite lovely actually. I couldn’t remember it earlier but it’s really nice and I love the transition from verse to chorus and the little postchorus. Another bop. Sorry about not voting for it.

16. Sweden: Axel Schylström - Tagen på sängen

I really don’t like this genre, I’m really sorry, but even though Erin loves this guy I can’t get myself to like any of his songs. This genre has been overdone here, and this song doesn’t really add anything new either. And I don’t like his accent but that shouldn’t affect my opinion of the music I know, he jist ahs a lowkey snob accent while singing he can’t help it and I should shut up.

17. Finland: Hevisaurus - Juranoid

This is only my second time listening to this, and the last time there was background noise - that was irresponsible Head of Delegationing - and I’ll never do it again, I’m sorry an ugly bitch like me did that, because it’s geoblocked in Sweden, but holy hell this is amazing. Not the most groundbreaking Finnish rock song but those lyrics oh my god Turt please forgive me for not jury voting for this, I think it was in my televote, but again I’m not sure. This is awesome. SUURI JURANOID!!!! SUURI JURANOID!!!

18. Lithuania: Mark Les & Moniqué - Nauja Istorija (3 points)

As soon as I sent my votes in I knew this was going to be robbed, I just felt it. The beat and the chorus to this song are amazing, and Moniqué has a really good voice. Deserved a top 10 finish really bad.

19. Italy: Bianca Atzei - Abbracciami perdonami gli sbagli (8 points)

This has a great beat that doesn’t distract me from the rest of the song, much like Lithuania, and the chorus just!! slaps!!!! It feels kind of empowering but also sweet?? idk. And I usually don’t like that kind of postchorus but here it Works. Deserved top 5 in my opinion.

20. Albania: Alban Skenderaj - Duart lart

OH, this was really good too. The verses were a bit better than th e chorus, but another strong postchorus and a song with a good beat that wasn’t too distracting. Gosh, this contest was strong,

21. United Kingdom; Swnami - Gwenwyn

Another solid entry (okay, they all were). It wasn’t the my favorite song in the national final in, rip Fioled, but this is really good too, it has a good vibe to it, and I can see why it did so well. Didnät quite fit into my top 10, but I like eit.

22. Estonia: Karl-Erik Taukar - Seitse Pühapäeva (4 points)

I love this song! I listen to it all the time, and I really should have given it mmore points, I thought it was going to do so much better, I love the positivity and the happy lyrics, the dream is to go on a roadtrip with my sõbrad and play this E! E! Should’ve made the top 10 at least what the heck you guys

23. Bulgaria: Kristian Kostov - Ne si za men

This is a really cool song, the chorsues are a bit better than the verses (the hook is epic, at a lack for better words). No excuse for me not giving points to this one either. I thought this would win, actually.

24. Iceland: Friðrik Dór - Dönsum (eins og hálfvitar) (6 points)

Another song that’s just really Cool. I really like the sounds used here, and the beat. I’ glad it placed in the top 10, but it was a bit underrated imo.

In conclusion: Språkvision was really strong and I want to thank everyone or making it the contest it was.

Oh my effin’ days, I was at a footie match so completely missed this but eeep! You guys actually liked my 100% Irish language entry?! Seriously, given all the hoohah in the North about Irish Language Acts and the worldwide attitude right now of it being fine to let historical languages just die out, this is such a sweet thing you’ve done for my confidence in our culture.

Ireland is… I like to think that my heart is a rock from the grounds of the lands my family have farmed for over 200 years, wrapped in turf from the bogs we still collect to cook 80% of our food, and warmed by the rushes that line our wild coastlines. I absolutely adore my country and our heritage and all the little things that set us apart from the busy town and city life elsewhere.

And it means a lot that you voted for a song you liked even though I don’t really talk with many people on here or even post that much anymore. Like I wouldn’t say I’m part of your community so much as that creepy blond on the outside who was left with custody of a blog when her real world friends went home. What I’m trying to say is: yous are all lovely, lovely people and have the integrity of Hufflepuffs. Let’s chat more.

Språkvision - you lads are doing something great! I always want to share my language with new people and this was way more successful than I’d ever imagined. So thanks, Europals. This has made my day :)
