Things have been a bit quieter around the blog lately in part because I simply haven’t have the time to put together outfit posts, but also because I’m genuinely not thinking as much about my wardrobe--and that’s a good thing. I feel like spring was pretty drama-free, and I loved being able to grab some pieces out of my closet and feel good about them. And when summer rolled around, there wasn’t a lot I wanted to change. Here’s what I’ve learned.
-Shopping secondhand is awesome. I have come to really love eBay and Tradesy as sources when I’m looking for a new piece, especially if it’s one I couldn’t normally afford, or one from a less-than-ethical retailer. Two of my favorite tops for spring were secondhand purchases. I also replaced my cashmere cardigan inexpensively via eBay when it got chewed up by moths! I was so heartbroken when I found a ton of holes all over it, and nearly bit the bullet on a different Everlane sweater I didn’t love as much but was a little bit cheaper. eBay was my hero when I saw my exact sweater (older version, but close enough) listed in great shape for $40.
-Even though this was one of my smaller capsules, it was more than enough. I didn’t get around to wearing my black shorts, velvet leggings, or blazer at all, which surprised me. I probably didn’t need the dress for everyday wear, but it was nice to have for vacation, so I’m going to try to wear it more on weekends and just pretend to be on vacation.
-It was a pretty good mix of clothing for the weather. I need sweatshirts and sweaters for the air-conditioned office, but it’s been pretty warm otherwise.
-I’m really happy with this particular set of shoes. I feel like I have an awesome collection of high-quality, neutral, comfy footwear that feels very me.
-I’m really happy in general with the wardrobe I’ve grown over the last few years. Certainly, there were some purchases I didn’t need to make, but overall, I am trusting myself more and more, and I’m loving the hunt that my shift toward more ethical clothing has brought me. Just seeing how many pieces I want to roll over from season to season is really reassuring that my purchases are going to get great mileage.
