One year Eostre, Goddess of Spring, was late in bringing the season. When she arrived she came across a poor bird, her wings completely frozen. Feeling guilty for what had happened, the Goddess transformed the bird into a winter hare so that they would always survive the snow. Still being part bird, the rabbit laid colourful eggs which they dedicated to Eostre. In Germany children would make grass nests for the hare in the hopes that he would leave eggs there for them to find. This is one suspected origin for the modern Easter Bunny.
