Narcissus is known as a vain and conceited figure from Greek mythology who drowned while staring at his reflection in a lake. In many versions of the myth however, his death was caused by the goddess Nemesis. The goddess took pity on a nymph name Echo, who faded away in unrequited love for Narcissus.
In revenge, Nemesis lured Narcissus to the lake, where he fell in love with his own reflection. In some versions, he drowned and the yellow daffodils by the lake were named for him, in others he wasted away and was himself transformed into the flower.
