Badgley Mischka on Bridal: “Even Lousy Dresses Can Look Like a Million Bucks”
Badgley Mischka brought Hollywood glamour to the Spring 2016 Bridal Collections with eight gowns featuring a range of details that included intricate beading, lace accents, and silhouettes that flattered the figure. Celebrities have turned to the duo for years for both red-carpet styles and wedding gowns. Most recently Lauren Conrad wore a Badgley Mischka “rustic-chic” gown to her September 2014 wedding to William Tell. New this season is the return of the dramatic train, which can be bustled or removed entirely after the ceremony. “Our bride is really liking trains again,” says Mark Badgley. “For a while we weren’t doing them, and the trend off ready-to-wear with all the beautiful capes that fall from the shoulder line are such a natural on bridal because of the drama, and it’s all about the back.” “What’s important,” notes James Mischka, “is that they’re detachable too. The Watteau trains, the extra-long trains, are detachable so the bride can dance at the reception without having to change the whole dress.” The collection includes a range of styles from figure-hugging fluted gowns to a grand tulle ball gown, and while most brides today are asking for something sexy, Badgley explains that what makes a dress sexy is its fit. “You can take a lousy dress and as long as it’s fit exquisitely, the bride will look like a million bucks!” For brides looking to personalize their wedding-day look, just as they are adding their personal stamp to the wedding details, Mischka suggests wearing something from your family. “An heirloom, whether it’s a locket you wear under your dress, a piece of ribbon from your grandmother’s wedding dress, a shoe your mother wore, a vintage piece of jewelry that belonged to a family member, I think that’s how you personalize these gowns and make them really special.” Related: Kate Middleton's Favorite Designer, Jenny Packham, Created a Magical Dress Collection Related: The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Day Bliss for Every Type of Bride
