“Of course I have to say it back… because I love you too.”
He's certain what he feels is love.
Satoru Gojo grew up as an only child, and while he would've been content with that, there was a certain distance that everyone in his life kept with him that made him acutely aware of not only the lack of affection but the loneliness that blanketed his life.
This fostered a vague concept of love. He could recognize affectionate displays well enough at his age, and had further grown to distinguish between sycophancy and love, though the former occurred more than the latter to a depressing degree.
Still, he hoped some day that someone would love him as much as he yearned for it. The true love, he meant.
Then, Kotori came into his life. When she displayed no such sycophancy, it baffled him. After all, most people had everything to gain from kissing his feet but she treated him so normally - at such an equal level despite the obvious difference in their stature. It was easy loving Kotori for that. If he knew what loving a sibling was like, perhaps he’d come close to loving her a little brother might.
He could hardly believe that it was easy for her to love him in turn. At least… she says so. He wants to believe her, with everything in him. So... he chooses to, because it all feels so right to.
“I love you too,” He says more firmly. “... Nee-chan.”
