The Prince & The Pauper- Opening Soon!
In the middle of the busy move to our new space in Downtown Winston-Salem, a show is in rehearsals that will mark Spring Theatre’s very first non-musical production, The Prince & The Pauper.
The show is directed by Spring Theatre favorite Edward Charles Kluttz, III, and has ten of the Triad’s most talented young performers in the show.
What’s the show about? When Edward Tudor, Prince of Wales, sees poor Tom Canty mistreated by one of his guards, he invites the pauper into the palace for a bite to eat. After conversing about each other’s lives, the prince suggests they exchange clothing for fun — in Tom’s rags, the prince looks like a “peacock fell in the mud ’n’ froze” while Tom claims the royal regalia is so heavy it’s “like to break me back.” But the fun and games soon become harsh reality when the prince’s guards mistake Edward for the pauper and throw him into the street while Tom is ushered in to handle important stately affairs — which he fumbles through with hilarity and later, poise. Wearing each other’s shoes (literally), the boys discover what it’s like “on the other side,” and it doesn’t take long for each of them to appreciate the life they always knew.
The talented cast of actors and actresses consists of Jeffrey Payton, Eva Bey, Anna Kummer, Ella Porter, Ethan Talbott, Blaine Freeman, Max Henneberg, Trinity Wenzel Wertheim, Ava Porter and Sophie Severs
Be sure to catch a show- March 20th and 21st at 7pm and March 22nd at 2pm at the Mountcastle Forum (Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts) located at 251 North Spruce Street. Winston-Salem, NC.
