An antiviruses reason to exist boiled down to the job they were built to do; which naturally had positives and negatives. While they didn’t often need to do soul searching (Vale being a rare exception due to the people he had met along his path) they did often suffer from a lack of motivation if there was nothing to do in regards to their role in the world.

The arcade wasn’t exactly a dangerous place to live, all considered. It had some unsavoury types, and with the growing advent of the Internet that was sure to grow - but keeping the peace was not difficult.

So; Vale, rather than delve into misery about having nothing to fight, was instead taking the opportunity to rest in one of the calmer games in the arcade that could safely accommodate him.

(His last attempt at entering Pac-Man caused an early kill screen for the player at the time, which was luckily explained away as a technical glitch.)

And so, without much worry about his own presence, he was simply lounging on a bench near the main hub of Sugar Rush; easy to find and standing out like a sore thumb. Most of the NPC ‘fans’ from the stands were giving him an extremely wide berth, however.
