Tim Duncan “The Decision” will be made Wednesday June 29th.
The fans and the Spurs await Tim Duncan’s decision to retire or play one more year.
The deadline of Wednesday June 29th will soon be here and the Spurs along with the fans want to know will Timmy retire or return for 1 more year? We have all known this was coming since last season and now that this critical decision is here, I am filled with mixed emotions. If Tim Duncan decides to retire I would be OK with his decision. Should he decide to return for one more year I would be OK with that too but with some conditions. First let’s not kid ourselves Tim Duncan is clearly not the same player who helped the Spurs win a title in 2014. We all saw what happened this year in the playoffs with OKC and while we saw flashes of what he was there was no consistency. If Tim decides to come back for his last season, he should come off the bench as that time has come. Timmy is no longer a NBA superstar he has become a role player. But this does not mean Tim Duncan can no longer be effective on the court. If anything he is still the best power forward to ever play the game. What he can contribute to the team is his veteran savvy and leadership. I know it’s hard to hear but sometimes the truth hurts. I would love to see Tim Duncan come back for one more season and ride off into the sunset hoisting up another trophy. The thing is, if this scenario is to play out Tim Duncan might just have to come off the bench to get that 6th NBA title.
