I cannot fail
'Cause I spy . . .
Hi there! Does "Korlash, Heir to Blackblade" + "Spy Kit" work as I think it'd work (referring to Korlash' Grandeur ability, discarding any non-legendary creature to activate the effect) I would think so due to a combination of rules 201.2b and 201.4b, but I would like a second opinion!
This is a cool idea, but it doesn’t work.
Korlash’s Grandeur ability is asking you to discard a card that’s named “Korlash, Heir to Blackblade”, not just a card with the same name as the card with the ability. Spy Kit doesn’t change the text of Korlash’s grandeur ability and so this combo does nothing to make the Grandeur easier.
Say I got a random peep with spy kit equipped and I magically give said peep to an opponent. Would I be really mean if I cast eradicate on the creature and it does the interaction I think it does?
The creature equipped with Spy Kit has the names of all non-legendary creature creature cards, as well as its own name if it’s legendary. This means that when Eradicate resolves, you’ll get to search that creature’s controller’s library hand and graveyard for any creature card with any of those names. This will allow you to exile all non-legendary creature cards in those zones.
Yes, it’s brutal and mean.
Are you on the fence about the audio monitoring device to be used in your investigation? Well, so KA-101 is just the device you need! Not only because it makes a combined use of bug transmitter, RF receiver and mini recorder, but also because it is more affordable than other devices of its kind.
Topi’s Daily Card #781: Spy Kit
Having multiples of one card isn’t something that is something you’re able to do in EDH, but Spy Kit allows you to do a few cool things here and there. The obvious thing that people first thought of didn’t work as Brothers Yamazaki are legendary and sadly that’s a huge bombo. Cards that do work are few and far between, but they can do some interesting things. Retraced Image lets you drop any nonlegendary creature right onto the battlefield for one blue. Mask of the Mimic lets you tutor for any nonlegendary and put it onto the battlefield at the cost of one blue and also sacrificing a creature. If you Echoing Truth your own equipped creature it’ll bounce all nonlegendary creatures. Evil Twin become evil-er. Sever the Bloodline becomes a Final Judgement of sorts. Winnow actually becomes playable as well. Is it worth it to run Spy Kit in a deck with these corner case cards? Maybe not. But it’s definitely a fun option where singles are the norm, and any thing that lets you pretend otherwise is pretty intriguing.
