See, it's interesting you say that, because I think this would've been better if it was two movies. Fuck trilogies, two would've been enough. You'd have one movie about the Jaeger pilots gaining ground against the Kaiju whilst suffering some losses. And then you'd have the second chapter devoted mostly to understanding the enemy before ultimately destroying it.
This way, you better develop the characters AS WELL as the Kaiju.
As it was, the plot was paper thin, it moved way too fucking fast and was resolved just as swiftly, there was way too much telling over showing, and the Jaegers weren't even that cool.
Now, I think Guillermo Del Toro is an incredible, visionary director. But this wasn't Pan's Labyrinth. It wasn't even Hellboy.
