Midorijima is an island off of the coast of the mainland, which Koujaku travelled to during childhood. You fly to the mainland and you take a boat to Midorijima. The boat is hidden behind the coast.
Uh, hi.
I - thanks, I guess?? Where is this information coming from? genuinely curious
I’m not sure what this is in reference to tbh (maybe this?) but while it’s been some time since I did my research, I’m pretty sure there’s one public airport located inside Platinum Jail, so transport to and from the island of Midorijima wouldn’t be limited only to boats.
[screenshot from Noiz’s Re:Connect route]
As improbable as I find the idea of an airport INSIDE Platinum Jail due to the way it’s set up like a high-tech bubble fortress with controlled weather and everything, that’s apparently what’s canon so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯I’m just running with it, although I can think of a myriad of better places to stick an airport just from looking at the full island CG (see link above). Appreciate the ask though!
I now have a Twitter which you can follow for updates on my writing and other spur of the moment thoughts. Here’s a hint as to what I’m working on currently.
Also, please remember that Twitter art should stay on Twitter. Just because it’s not on Tumblr doesn’t mean you can repost it here with or without credit (unless you’ve specifically asked for permission & they said it was okay).
What is their first residence like? Have they moved a lot? Who cooks and who cleans? We just don’t know. ¿ But we can guess.
Warnings: brief mention of ViTriAo bad ending, vaguely referenced their masturbatory habits too
Summary: I’m not sure if this is an acceptable format for a ViTri Week submission but I figure people probably like to compare ideas on this sort of thing, right? I know I certainly do. So here’s a kind-of masterpost of my take on Virus and Trip just living together - neither as friends, family, nor lovers. 😉
☕ ☕ ☕
- Without being influenced by Virus’ schedule, Trip can wake up at any time from 4:30am to mid afternoon. If Virus isn’t awake yet, he’s fine with just doing his own thing, usually surfing the web and/or watching tv (especially cartoons, at a quiet volume) until a reasonable hour to start the day. When he’s tired and on a routine, he stumbles groggily out of bed and straight into a shower first thing in the morning to let that wake him up. Trip takes less time to get ready but somehow still manages to use up all of the hot water. Like Virus, he wears cologne (but sometimes applies way too much by rubbing it heavily onto his neck).
- Virus usually manages to get up around 7am every morning regardless of how late he was up the previous night. On the rare days when he makes his own coffee first, he uses the more expensive grounds and checks social media and the news on his Coil while he waits for it to finish brewing. Most days he lingers in bed for a few extra minutes, uses the bathroom, has a nice long shower, and is ready to go by 8:45. He takes better care of his skin than Trip does and preens on little details like his hair and nails for twice as long. When he is ready to leave the house, he is READY - immaculate in appearance, with his clothes finely pressed.
- It takes them about an equal amount of time to initially spike their hair up. Trip does his separately, on his own or in his own bathroom, and has never once asked Virus for help or styling tips, so his end result always looks a little different (even though they get their hair cut at the same place). Their bangs being parted on opposite sides is not intentional mirroring - Virus just switches the direction of his whenever Trip attempts to copy him again. Eventually he will take the hint..
- Usually, they both go out for breakfast and get coffee together before work. Trip prefers coffee to tea but will only drink either with a ton of extra creamer and sugar added. Virus enjoys tea in the afternoon. They eat most of their meals out of the house, get lunch at various restaurants while patrolling the streets before finding somewhere else to go for dinner, or just grab those little pre-packaged and store-prepared foods from the nearest convenience mart and take those home/to the car.
- Trip drives, always. Virus doesn’t like having to pay so much attention to the road and other vehicles and he hates traffic jams, which tend to happen a lot in the more crowded parts of Midorijima. Meanwhile, Trip gets restless when he’s a passenger but generally keeps a cool head as the driver. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ However, most of the time they spend in the Old Resident District they just walk everywhere anyway. Sometimes public transportation is unavoidable but they both hate being shoved into a cramped space with so many other people. Virus usually picks a corner and Trip acts as a barrier between him and the rest of the world, stops the filthy commons from breathing too much of his air.
- The special jobs bestowed upon them by Toue Inc. and the yakuza mean they spend much of their day touring the island; they get home late most evenings, if they get back at all instead of finding a hotel somewhere closer to their next-day destination. Rather than providing them with any real sense of home, Virus’ apartment is just another place they can sleep and relax.
- Their evening routine varies depending on the day and how much work they still have to do. When he has time, Virus likes to pamper himself with long baths before bed, often taking a glass of white wine and an e-book in with him. Sometimes along with Hersha. Let’s pretend it’s because snake skin has some sort of gentle exfoliating effect and not because Virus is in fact a weird pervert with a sexually functioning robot animal companion capable of stimulating his erogenous zones. Oh who are we kidding...
- What they do in their own bedrooms is none of each other’s business but between you and me, I’m pretty sure Trip has a few lewd magazines purchased from a retro sex shop in the Old Resident District. Virus prefers videos, usually of the kinkier variety. He has a private laptop for just such occasions (the quality is better than on his Coil’s holo-screen). Trip tends to look at the same thing over and over but Virus is always seeking out new content. His tastes can be very experimental. As long as it’s something different to keep him from getting bored.
- When they’re both in the mood to just chill and pay attention to something, Virus and Trip will watch certain television shows together, especially crime dramas with an overarching plot. Neither of them really care if they miss a few episodes here and there. There is definitely something very wrong with them.
- On his own, Virus prefers the medical genre and science shows but generally reads more than he watches tv. Trip likes watching predatory animal documentaries, boxing and wrestling championships, and cartoons. He has a strange habit of putting the television volume on mute and just reading the subtitles intently even when Virus isn’t trying to focus or get any work done.
- When Trip isn’t falling asleep on the couch, he’s falling asleep sprawled out on his stomach on top of the bed, often still wearing his clothes. If he remembers to take them off, it’s nothing but slim boxers or pajama bottoms. Virus wears fancy pajamas to sleep in because he’s fancy and isn’t that the whole point of being rich, being able to wear fancy pajamas? wtf Trip
- Sometimes they will go to the membership gym at night and use the “special privileges” granted to them by their reputation with the yakuza to work out after hours when no one else is there, or else Trip will just lift weights at home while sitting on the bed or watching tv. He makes the most use out of the gym - the only exercise machine Virus has ever deigned to try in public is the treadmill. Otherwise, Virus prefers to just do light workout things like push-ups at home when no one is looking. 👀
- They do occasionally go jogging together some mornings, but only because Trip started following a short distance behind Virus to see why he kept leaving the house so early (wearing distinctly more casual sweatshirt hoodies and baggy pants than his usual attire). Naturally, Trip was caught - it’s hard to miss his figure even on a busy street - and Virus questioned curiously if he wanted to just come along next time. They both feel healthier for doing it, and Virus enjoys having yet another opportunity for people-watching whenever they stop to have a drink of water and re-tie their shoes.
- While outfitting his new apartment, Virus purchased a fine set of silverware, plates, glasses, and other eating utensils in case they ever entertained guests. He can’t be bothered to impress Trip, however, so they rarely use any of the fancier things. Instead, they just keep a box of disposable plastic forks, spoons, and chopsticks in their kitchen drawer and mostly eat things out from whatever containers they originally came in. Their fridge is filled with leftovers, if it’s not empty. It’s Trip’s responsibility to sort through them and throw things out, although Virus will often supervise from nearby and give him directions.
- Trip can actually be asked politely to perform a lot of basic grunt work tasks, as Virus quickly discovered (and hesitantly began to use to his own advantage) and he will usually do whatever is requested of him without making a big fuss, almost like it’s nothing. As such, Trip’s duties can range anywhere from reaching for things on the top highest shelf to getting their clothes over to the dry cleaners (they don’t do their own laundry). If it would be inconvenient for Virus, he gets Trip to do it. [For example, when they’re hiding Aoba and can no longer hire a maid, Trip takes over most of the cleaning because for some reason the noise from the vacuum gives Virus a migraine. WEERUS NEEDS TO LIE DOWN. He still has to clean the dust off his own canopy bed though, somehow. Picture that for a minute please.]
- Neither of them usually kill any spiders or other insects that find their way into the apartment. That’s a job for their AllMates.
- Trip will also make phone calls for household services whenever they need something delivered (or repaired) and can be depended upon to get the point across with just a few simple sentences and yes or no answers. One thing he is not allowed to do is order food for both of them, because he can never remember Virus’s exact preferences (even if he’s sitting there right next to him giving him instructions while he’s on the phone). Trip isn’t stupid, by the way, he’s just distracted. He can’t be bothered with much that requires him to focus.
- In return, Virus handles the finances and keeps track of their day-to-day appointments. He can get a little impatient with having to constantly remind Trip what is on their agenda but he doesn’t really mind. It’s not such a big deal.
- Both of them do the grocery shopping, usually together. Otherwise Trip comes home with nothing but instant food, junk, and desserts. Uirusu, meanwhile, has a pretentious palate which includes a lot more greens than Trip is used to. Only the finest cooked steaks for him.
- Virus thinks it’s fun to cook for an interesting hobby. When he does the grocery shopping alone, he typically only buys expensive ingredients for making food from scratch. Unfortunately for Trip, that usually means there’s not enough left in the cupboards for him to snack on and he might spend a few minutes just sulking around the kitchen, staring dolefully at the empty shelves. Sometimes he will resort to eating leftover dry cereal straight out of the box, just for that satisfying crunch.
- On the rare occasion that Virus actually feels like going to the trouble of making a meal, he will enlist Trip’s help with the preparation. Trip is less picky about making messes and getting his hands dirty, which makes him better at handling raw meat, kneading bread dough, whipping any kind of batter, etc. He just goes for it, gets the job done, says “oops” when he inevitably spills something, and cleans it up no problem. Virus tends to be more careful and precise, which, while not necessarily a bad thing - it’s good for measuring ingredients and dicing vegetables - does make everything take longer.
- Both of them wash the dishes afterward, or rather, Trip washes the dishes and Virus dries them on a hand towel. If Trip puts anything in the dishwasher, Virus takes it out again and rewashes it himself later because all dishwashers are crap. Even in the future. We’ve got lifelike androids but we still can’t invent a functional dishwasher. C’mon now, step it up Toue Inc.
- Trip orders most of his sweets and baked goods from a delivery service. He doesn’t make any of them himself and neither does Virus, who can only bake scones and other basics without getting impatient. Trip is all about instant gratification when it’s just him and there’s no greater purpose, meaning he would rather not bother with preparing his own meals and is generally a if-it-takes-longer-to-make-than-a-poptart-no-thanks-I-don't-want-any kind of guy.
- While he enjoys eating and trying new things, Trip can also get bored with his food halfway through. It’s not uncommon to find things like an ice cream sandwich with a couple of bites taken out of it lying about the house in strange places because Trip didn’t feel like eating it after all and abandoned it somewhere to melt instead. Welter disposes of his leftover snacks whenever he finds them, upon Virus’s instruction.
- Oh, also, Trip feeds Welter, even though he’s really not supposed to due to the whole robot animal with no digestive tract thing. Welter is not always on board with this, as it requires more frequent visits to the maintenance office.
On that note, I have written a lot so I’m going to stop here. If you read all of this and got all the way down here, wow congrats, you are a dedicated ViTri fan. 👏 You’re welcome to let me know what your own thoughts are too. I enjoy hearing other people’s headcanons. Maybe we could compare. Talk dmmd to me.
It’s doubtful that anyone will but you can also make requests for more information if you’re curious about any of these points or things I haven’t mentioned. If it’s something to do with Virus and Trip, I’ve probably already thought of it. I spend way too much of my daily life thinking about theirs ahaha
so um, listen. I meant to give you the second chapter of FaIT (for the Past Prompt) on Saturday and have that be my last submission for #virusweek but I am currently away attending a small town horror convention w/ Freddy K. and Dracula Jr. all weekend long so this was the best I could do. I don’t want to keep half-assing my writing to meet deadlines haha. I’ll get to it properly when I can.
In the meantime, here are a few of my fic ideas:
Virus and Trip sneak into Oval Tower’s kitchens and make some nasty cupcakes to pass out to the rest of their group, giving them all food poisoning
Trip accidentally super-glues his own fingers to the insides of his pockets while helping Virus fasten everybody’s shoes to the floors of their cubby holes just before the group has to go on an outing. Virus has to cut him loose before anyone notices he must be the guilty culprit.
When they’re older, they stand around between classes together getting bored as they chew piece after piece of gum for the sole purpose of getting back at a teacher Virus dislikes by sticking it all to the bottom of their desk drawer in one massive row.
Trip warns Virus before he tosses a dangerously conflicting chemical into the beaker in their shared science class to cause an explosion and they both quickly duck under a table before it can go off.
They steal a packet of laxatives out of their teacher’s desk and put it in the guards’ coffee to watch the ensuing disaster. While they’re there, they sample booze for the first time from the teacher’s private stores in the bottom drawer.
And finally, they let all of the lab research animals out of their cages and stay put just long enough to see if the snakes will eat the rats if they’re all set free in the room together. This story was actually the most important part of the original plot and everything else came later, so I’ll definitely be writing this one in more detail. Spoiler alert: was it all Toue’s idea from the beginning? oooh
no promo but if you like the way I write Virus and Trip you should follow this blog for the occasional update (if you don’t mind how grossly nsfw most of it will be) or headcanons/character analysis, as the public tags can be a little bit unreliable and I don’t always feel comfortable using them to display my writing anyway. I swear I won’t normally post as much or as often as I have for this event haha. :o)
