Cordelia is a siren who stinks at her purpose. She is a wonderful singer (her kind has the special ability of singing in up to 3 different voices at once) but is very anxious and a perfectionist with her singing, so her second guessing often lets human prey get away. She comes from a colony of other sirens who kick her out because she’s so terrible at being what she is supposed to be. Sad and alone, she decides to leave the ocean and find some sense of belonging elsewhere: on dry land.
Cordy’s species can also shapeshift into a human disguise to tempt poor saps into the sea with them. Their only flaw in their form is their fin ears remain the same. They will typically hide their ears in their hair or in a hat until they can go in for the kill. While preparing to go on land, Cordelia sees a sputtering human in the ocean at risk of getting swept by a rip current. Figuring she had nothing to lose, she saves the human. And as Choromatsu regains consciousness, he nearly passes out again after seeing he’s being carried away from the jaws of death and in the arms of a tall, beautiful mystery girl. And so their story begins
