dashcon's redemption arc does actually mean something to me. i felt like the failure of the original dashcon kind of marked a turning point in the history of tumblr culture, where it shifted away from people being unabashedly enthusiastic about things they loved, towards constant disdain for other people and honestly a newfound prevalence on here of cringe culture by a different name (mostly folks trying to morally justify cringe culture imo). but i feel like it's taken a turn for the better as of late. maybe that's wishful thinking but i hope this is an opportunity for all of us to remember why we first started hanging out on this site.

one thing i disliked about being a philosophy major was that philosophy, as an academic field, had shockingly little tolerance for subjectivity. i much prefer reading it on my own terms and not having to worry about whether or not i'm having the "correct" interpretations of things

as a soon-to-be stem major, i think i'll do better in this field. not because i enjoy the material more (i still love philosophy), but because the precision and formulas i need to rigorously adhere to will actually serve a functional purpose, with a standard of correctness that's based on tangible facts rather than invisible rules set by institutions
