there are a bunch of lines for sr1 hitman targets that i think go entirely unused but they got some lore on Wong specifically. namely that he's got at least one son and one daughter and most of his targets earned his ire for messing with his kids (he does say in the activity cutsene that he's after these people because they "wronged his family"). he's not too fond of the guys his daughter's been sleeping with for one
that last one mentions the target also (presumably) got in a fight with his son. well he also got broken up with and Wong's after the ex's ass
grandpa even goes after a prostitute Donnie slept with
but also i guess he's not actually too fond of his son (or a son) because he wants him dead too, something to do with money
but then there's also this that's pretty vague but it implies that something bad must've happened to his kids, the bit about "not seeing them" makes me think a car crash or something. like are all his kids dead? what if Donnie is his only remaining relative. no wonder grandpa is so fucked in the head
Wong better get to the point, he talks too much.
This is gonna be about Akuji, I just know it.
At least the tongs are getting ready to do something.
Wong's waited a long time to make his move.
Hope the old woman doesn't show up.
We haven't acted in too long.
an interesting set of lines from a random ped that sheds some light on Mr. Wong's role in Stilwater's criminal underworld
finally it is time for my Killer Dolphins Masterpost. from a director (author?) credited only as "The Dude", it's a series of films and maybe comics in sr1 (and 2) that Boss seemingly enjoys. the series "debuted" with what is either a trilogy or a tetralogy that has posters scattered around the city
besides the original Killer Dolphins ("Coming Soon"), there's the sequel, Killer Dolphins 2 (This Time, They Want Babies)
this one is "Coming Later"
then there's the unnumbered Killer Dolphins: Rise of the Sail that also claims to be a sequel to the original film. it's being shown at the Peep This movie theater during the game's events
then finally, as the crown jewel of a trilogy or maybe a tetralogy, we get to the good stuff. some prime mid 00s humor. Killer Dolphins 3: Mecha Dolphins of Doom
coming this century! there's probably gonna be monkeys and waffles in it too if we're very lucky! also did i mention the numbered movies have actually already come out on dvd
but thats not all. a tiny probably unused and just barely readable texture states that the Killer Dolphins in fact has FIFTEEN parts in total, so these three or four films are merely the very tip of the iceberg that is The Dude's genius
(it's really hard to read but it really does say "Part 1-15")
only the first few films are ever actually advertised in the game though, and it does make me wonder if the series originated as a comic book series. i'm basing this mostly on the Killer Dolphins 3 thing Boss has in their shithole crib in sr1 AND in the hotel in sr2, which is not the size of a dvd case but rather a magazine (and they don't have a dvd player anyways)
this most definitely means something and isn't just a random asset someone added for flavor without really thinking about it
anyways, as an obvious Killer Dolphins superfan Boss must've been just as disappointed as all us players that sr2 didn't introduce any new KD stuff - no new movies, just asset reuse - EXCEPT for one thing (afaik): a Killer Dolphins 3 pinball machine. the third movie must've been a hit, it does sound like a real period piece
as a final note, V also found use for one KD asset in sr2 that was already in sr1's files, but went unused as far as i could see. you can find a cute little Killer Dolphin statue being sold at the marina boardwalk and i guess the implication is that they're specifically bootlegs being sold as souvenirs!
and that's the Killer Dolphins. they didn't even add any KD stuff to the logo options in sr2. for shame
hello once again i am here to share a Stilwaterian oddity. The Saints Rulebook is a small booklet that came with the Australian collector’s edition of Saints Row 2 (called The Initiation Pack). very similar to the sr1 manual which was written from Troy’s perspective, the Rulebook is an interesting little piece of out-of-game Saints Lore if not for the actual content then at least in execution: it was mainly written by (probably) Boss, Johnny and the lieutenants for newly canonized members of their gang.
you can get my full sized scans of the entire booklet and the Saints “ID card” here:
did u know. the VK Snatch npc Madame Vikki 1. is Will's sister, as in that pimp Julius is friends with 2. she claims someone "took" her girls, but in reality they left because she did something that upset them (one of them might tell you they'll come back if Vikki apologizes or something similar) and 3. her brothel in Rebadeaux is called Madame Vikki's Hotel and i never realized that it had a sign and everything lol
i was looking at this graffiti at the Brotherhood safehouse and like... three crosses/graves - Victor and the Lopez brothers... the wolf using their resting place as its prowling grounds, their questionable legacy living on as the BH’s collective fursona... i wonder why the Carnales-Brotherhood connection wasn’t emphasized more when it’s everywhere in the imagery (and even the name). the Carnales cross is right in the middle of the BH symbol, Maero has it tattooed on his chest in the final game, and it was even more obvious in his old concept art
it was a “tattoo thing” after all, between Maero, his dad and Victor (not even the Lopez brothers themselves). there’s definitely some kinda “fall from grace” theme going on here i think - at least in the eyes of actual ex-Carnales - one that probably was supposed to mirror the Saints (maybe vs the VKs even?) in some way but it was left pretty obscured and vague. the connection isn’t mentioned in the manual or the rulebook - the latter of which just vaguely refers to the BH members as the “cast-outs and dredges of Stilwater’s slums” - which i think makes it extra mysterious. it feels like such a major aspect of the identity of the Brotherhood and yet it apparently never made its way into any kinda finalized promo/supplemental reading material like press kits etc. hidden in plain sight, only vaguely referred to in throwaway lines by people like Luz or Maero himself - which i think is the point probably, it was only ever of any deep personal importance to Maero himself and not the gang as a whole
