It doesn’t really taste like larb, it’s just covered in powder that tastes vaguely like larb. (Also, confession: I have never had Laotian larb before :( )

Aw, maybe it taste like the grounded rice powder and chili instead? So sad then. :-( What?? Do!

Yes! I don’t know if you have this problem in Laos, but Western tourists treat temples here is zoos where they can just take pictures of people without consent and prance around shouting like it’s their personal playground. It’s a place of worship.

I completely agree w/ you about the attitudes of some monks. I am glad the persecution of Rohingya in Burma is gaining international attention, because I feel that some of them uphold this notion that all Buddhists are peaceful and never at (½)

(2/2) fault just because we haven’t had as many disputes as the other major religions. It’s upsetting how so many of the issues apparent today are glossed over.

YEEES. it’s becoming such a big problem, the government was even addressing it...funny thing is, most of the trouble-makers that do that passed over from Thailand to Laos. like, they are talking so loud, not getting down to their knees to respectfully pass people, even some still wear shoes inside?? a mess. and i’m pretty sure we got our fair share of being photographed w/out permission and knowledge (I know I did lol) 

I can’t believe people will still uphold that stereotype in that situation. :-// (and don’t even let me go on how pissed I am with the militant, radical Buddhists, like...) maybe that’s why Buddhism is one of those religions that can easily be profited off and converted to w/out truly understanding or trying...they probably think that peacefulness and calmness are the only areas of Buddhism...

Yeah, she’s featured in the article, actually! I think the patriarchal way Buddhism is being practiced here needs to be addressed, but Western Buddhism feminists do not understand it and should stop speaking over us.

There are real issues of sexism within how our religion is practiced today, but Westerners often ignore that in favour of speaking over us about traditions that they do not understand. And ignore the religious institutions of their own countries.

yeees, that’s why I’m so iffy whenever I see “spiritual, wanderlusts” Buddhist travelers there 9__9 they act so free and feel they are so much more educated! like, if you really want to help us speak out, give us some room and listen to us, no matter how angry you might get!  

at the same time tho, still side eyeing the monks that are really sexist lol. not only do they teach the religion, they teach the entire community on moral values, etc. their big responsibility.

I completely agree- so much of organized religion around the world is patriarchally structured, but I'm glad that's changing. In Thailand, there is a rising movement of Buddhist Feminism. One of our most prominent Buddhist leaders, Dhammananda Bhikkhuni, is a woman, for instance, and has spoken out about the need for more female religious leaders! :D

I’m actually googling Buddhist Feminism as I’m typing this and I see so many Western Buddhists Feminists speaking for us, which is sad… D-: But yes, urggh, there’s so many crappy things said about women in our religion, even in Thai & Lao animism that’s connected to Buddhism too, so sad!
