❝ is it . . . uh , insensitive . . . to ask if you want to get ice cream together ? i know you like it , so I . . . was just wondering . ❞
he had many perceptions of sora throughout his entire time of getting to know him; initially they were almost all negative, about a boy who seemly had the life he could never hope to have, just a foolish’s dream to obtain. all because of the laws and rules of the universe. yet he had worked hard for so long, tirelessly searching for ways to bring him back into the world; not everyone had that type of compassion or dedication, but it was evident he wasn’t like any other person. he hadn’t ever gave up. a boy chosen by the keyblade ( as they both were ) two wholes, yet separate at long last. for awhile he felt like he couldn’t been his own individual because of him, leading to many spiteful emotions in the past — but, it was thanks to sora’s efforts that he could finally start to feel like his own person. he was a shining light, his destroyer and savior almost in some ways. in an ironic twist of events, he’s become indebted to him and his efforts to separate themselves. proving that indeed, all this time, he was his person with a heart unique to only him.
so, the obvious hesitation in his approach makes his lips twist into a frown, though he supposes it makes sense. but by now? after everything the world’s thrown at them, roxas no longer holds anymore ill-intent towards him. they’re still getting adjusted to many changes in their lives, he’s getting to officially know hayner, pence, and olette all over again. it feels both surreal and painful, but he’s grateful to once again enjoy their company, not some artificial love and fake companionship. his path was no longer some carved out stimulation coded with data, this was his life to live, their lives together now. they lead different ones, not ones forcefully intertwined so maybe that’s a little much to comprehend, but — getting some ice cream together sounds like a great start. and he doesn’t eat ice cream with just anybody, so this was an incredibly high honor. and yet … something still felt a little off.
❝ hm. i wouldn’t really call it insensitive. ❞ his lips purse, taking a moment to pause, trying to figure out a way to end the awkward tension in the air. instead, he addresses something obvious, or at least in his eyes it is. ❝ but it doesn’t have to be sea-salt ice cream. i eat other things too, you know. ❞ he looks up towards him and flashes a small smile, followed by a light-hearted chuckle. despite reliving a majority of his memories, seeing so many things from his heart, he hadn’t know the small details about sora or any of his preferences. whether important or not, it’s still the point — now that’s no good now, is it? ❝ you already know that’s my favorite but what’s yours? do you even like sweets? ❞ his expression begins to soften softly. ❝ i guess … what i’m trying to say is it’s a two way street, sora. i wanna be able to get to know you better now. ❞ he reaches a hand up to rub behind his neck, feeling his hairs begin to tickle. ❝ not from your heart anymore, but face to face. ❞ his hand moves back down, a more relaxed smile coming to his face. baby steps were important, and he thinks it’s a good starting point for the both of them. ❝ so on that note, where’s someplace you haven’t gone in awhile? we can grab a bite to eat there! how about it? ❞
