The New York Times edition of October 25th 1965 showing the funnel of either the Michelangelo or her nearly identical twin, the Raffaello, both finished that same year. The ships were considered very modern at the time, something the photographer surely wanted to show not only by focussing the viewers attention on the curiously shaped funnel, but also on the woman wearing a bikini. Taking a more southern route than her british, french o german counterparts, the italian twins navigated through warmer weather, which is why they had three pools and a large range of deck facilities.
