Started thinking about Sho picking up photography as another hobby. Someone gifted him their old camera maybe when he once expressed interest- In return for a number of free food next time.
After he's done closing up the truck, he'd look up the way to use it and fiddle with it. Bonnie being his first ever picture. Then his food truck. Too bad he's already cleaned up, or he'd taken a picture of his dish of the day today. Waste taster. Random bird. Flashes of purple and before he even stop to think about it, Subaru-senpai.
They'd stare at each other in surprise and Sho would break the silence first and apologise because for some reason he thinks this is something Subaru doesn't like. (And he would be right about that, i feel like he is not fond of candid photos of him being taken). He'll delete the photo and offers Subaru to take his picture in return.
Subaru didn't find it distasteful when Sho took the picture, far from it, he actually feels a little flattered but before he can find the words that doesn't sound like 'it's okay if you're the one taking it', it was already deleted. He politely laughs it off and relents when Sho insisted.
"Look through this and then press this". Subaru awkwardly holds up the camera and points it towards Sho who is leaning back against the food truck, looking away from him. Click! The shutter closes once and Sho turns those iolite eyes towards him and in this light you could see it shifts purple and- click! Subaru presses it again.
He can somewhat understand it now. It's like preserving a little of Sho. He can't exactly keep him in Hotarubi but if it's a picture- Sho's face being an inch before the camera snapped him out of his thoughts and Subaru immediately puts the camera down.
"Senpai, you're supposed to take only one. Since you took two, can I get one of you?", Sho needs to remember to add a disclaimer that he's teasing everytime because now he has Subaru nodding and apologising to him in return. He doesn't refute him though, somehow he wants it. A picture of Subaru.
Under the shade, even more beautiful than the flowers surrounding the man, he clicks the shutter. With a promise to send the pictures whenever he actually gets the time to learn developing photos, they parted ways.
Read a manga and one of the character likes to take photos because you can keep.. the things in a sense and I thought wow that's so Subaru. At least in my head I read him as never really having things that are his and he would like having things be his. Huh, wait I think of Sho similar to this too. Once again, it's becoming a full circle.
I've also written a short photographer x actor AU for a friend but instead of developing that I just think it can work for canon as well! Photography just seems like another hobby Sho would take up.
I think of important dates on the following year as a separate entity, but Valentine's is approaching soon isn't it?
Made a tag for my ssb yaps! Is this my diary or is this idea dumping whoever knows. Both feels about the same to me
Now that it is out of the way, it's back to revising his plan for the bento boxes.
Sho would attempt simple recipes of chocolate chip cookies. Nothing too extravagant. Nothing too over ambitious. Baking is a different beast altogether compared to cooking and he knows he's nowhere good enough to try making something with layers of intricate flavours a certain someone would enjoy. A simple chocolate chip cookie sprinkled with sea salt will have to do for now he convinces himself as he feeds the waste-taster another one of his failed Youkan attempts.
Subaru contemplated it for a very long, long time for the upcoming day. It almost feels like a sin- some would even call it desecrating the traditional art. But the thought of a chocolate nerikiri, wrapped in blue shifting to purple like the colour of Sho's eyes- perhaps a morning glory motif- continues to haunt his sleep.
Haku and Zenji would question his insistence on sticking to the traditional way. Is HE the one who thinks it's wrong or is it what his family and other people would think? While Subaru is a stickler for rules and respect traditions, this is one of the few where he thinks a modern take is not a blasphemy. He's grappling with the thought of being okay with this and eventually made the nerikiri for Valentine's. Beautifully shaped like a stylised morning glory with colours reminiscent of Sho's eyes.
Valentine's Day rolls up and Sho has it down perfectly, from the secluded location, the bento menu, even his attire!! Swapping his usual jacket for a haori to fit the theme. He has a lovely Subaru in tow, dressed in pink and purple kimono, almost like a flower himself.
They're enjoying the flowers and sho is proudly pulling out his bento filled with inarizushi, sakura onigiri, karaage, salty tamagoyaki, tsukemono etc. Subaru gifts him a limited edition sakura sake for the occasion. Once they're having their fill of food, Subaru pulls out the wagashi that they agreed he'd be bringing. Sho is awed by the intricate beauty as always from Subaru but the morning glory nerikiri in particular..
"Is it too conceited of me to think that's made for me in mind?"
And Subaru bashfully lets hom know it's his Valentine's chocolate, all the while panic rambling about his first time trying a modernised take of nerikiri and it might not taste good but Sho gently caresses his cheeks and looks at him fondly because creating for someone, that is a form of love he knows as well.
Sho gently thanks him, and the way his gaze and tone softens while he touches Subaru's cheeks stops his trailing words. He can however feel his cheeks heating up where Sho is touching him. He's so endearing like that and Sho wants to kiss him so badly despite the ban on kissing publicly (enforced by Subaru after almost running into an incident).
He gets an idea and brazenly, shamelessly asks Subaru to feed him the wagashi as part of his Valentine as well. Sho leans closer, closing his eyes and with a cloying "Aah~",opening his mouth to put Subaru in a spot.
Subaru panically scans his surroundings. There was no one there. With practiced gesture, he cuts the nerikiri with a pick and picks it up. While he hesitates Sho teases him over leaving him hanging. Subaru plants a kiss on Sho's cheek and feeds him the nerikiri to cover his embarassment. Sho blushes furiously while he eats it.
"Surprise attacks aren't fair, senpai"
"I can't keep letting you have the upper hand all the time"
