Is there anything you would add onto the "real facts about being 500 pounds". There arent many resources talking about what its like(at least from someone who doesen't hate themselves for no reason).
This has been sitting in my inbox for a while now. I was going to hold off an answering it until I hit 500. But I’m 5’6” and have a BMI of 78 so my experience is probably close enough.
- You won’t fit anywhere, when you go out you have to do research ahead of time and look for photos online to find out if you will have anywhere you can sit down.
- Walking more than a block will be exhausting. I got my doctor to sign off on a disabled parking tag when I hit 475 pounds.
- You will almost always be the fattest person no matter where you are
- There is joy to be had in being very soft and very heavy. Everything takes extra effort, even just getting up off the couch. But all that effort is very gratifying. A reminder that you are building the body you need to feel at home in your own skin.
- Giving yourself permission to eat whatever you want whenever you want is very liberating. The world of food becomes an endless adventure.
- No matter what you go to the doctor for they will suggest you lose weight. In my experience doctors seem to be getting better about this. But it may also be because I started declining to let them weigh me once I hit 400 pounds. I find I get better care when they aren’t just focused on one number.
- Belly rubs will become a religious experience. Even more so if you have managed to stuff your enormous belly full of delicious foods.
- Relating to normal sized people gets harder. They basically live on another planet. Finding friends can be harder too since most people are not okay with just letting fat people exist. Invest your time in communities that care about you and want you to be happy at any size.
- You can still get bigger. A lot bigger. 500 pounds is not as big as you think it is.
