Scar sat down on her porch and looked around. Sometimes, she forgot exactly how safe her little town was. Sure, there was the threat of other humans, but she didn’t have to worry about any walkers sneaking up on her. After years of having to be on high-alert, she still struggled to remember that she was safe and at home.
There were kids playing with each other, giggling and having fun, adults going about their days and doing the jobs that they were given to keep the town in order. Everyone had a job and Scar’s was to guard, but she was free at the moment. She took out one of her last few cigarettes and lit it before getting up and heading towards the fence. The guards kept the place safe, but they would be nothing without the fence.
The girl walked along the perimeter, taking another drag. Usually on her days off, she would sneak out of the camp and go exploring on her own, but it seemed busy out today. She finished her cigarette and smashed it out with her shoe then looked around one last time to check to see if anyone was looking. When she saw the coast was clear, Scar started scaling the fence silently, intent on getting her freedom for the day.
