Sweet Song of Freedom
Roche accidentally takes Iorveth as a prisoner of war and has a crisis of conscience. Iorveth suffers and ponders the concept of freedom. Both re-examine their priorities.
“Would you die for him?” He asks her harshly.
She blinks, the question visibly taking her by surprise, but she doesn’t hesitate when she answers in a quiet but steady voice: “Yes.”
Vernon stares into her eyes a moment longer, but he already knows it’s true. Who understands blind, unwavering devotion better than him, after all?

Sweet Song of Freedom, ch 5
Roche exhales at that. His eyes bore into Iorveth’s face for a few more heartbeats—but then he gives in, extending his forearm like a peace offering. He’s still frowning, but his expression seems more uncertain than angry now. “Why do you care so much?” He grunts. Iorveth gives him a sharp look. Isn’t it obvious? “If you die now, I will follow swiftly.” Something like disappointment flickers in Roche’s eyes, and then the dh’oine turns his gaze away. Iorveth doesn’t dwell on it.
