Like if the show won’t go full on “yes they’re totally gay and in love” and leave the relationship more ambiguous a lot of people would be like “oh just another fujobait so disappointed” like the show doesn’t have to have a textbook representation to still have a representation?Because it is already a story about love between two men and it won’t be devalued if this love isn’t clear-cut romantic or sexual?
@ssryzor: That’s a fair, valid opinion and I get that. Like I do appreciate Viktor and Yuuri’s relationship and the effort they’ve put towards developing it, and I’m sure that there will be Japanese queer people who appreciate that. I think my objection here is that... there’s a tradition of fujoshi-targeted anime in the industry. People know that it’s a market. Put that together with Japan’s history with bromance, and you get an environment where, yeah, no one takes the ambiguous (b)romance seriously. I’ve already seen Japanese people online comment stuff like “ehhh it’s just for the fujoshis” and “well for Russian people it’s normal” and “Ahhh more Viktor skinship!! Even though I know foreigners are more touchyfeely, I’m so excited,” and it’s just... I would really like something more substantial. But I do get where you’re coming from and I don’t want ppl to think that they shouldn’t like YOI or find joy in Victuuri. That’s not what I’m trying to say at all.
