Finished watching opla s2 — overall fine, liked some things, didn't like other things, but good effort. But damn, the Drum Arc, like the Arlong Park Arc, is at a disadvantage by the original story just being too good. The Live Action Drum Island was never gonna match it, let alone exceed it, but nonetheless I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed. One of my main complaints is Kureha, because she's my favorite non-strawhat character in the whole series, and while the actress did a good job with the script she had, the writing toned the character down so much. She comes across so much more weak in the live action (visibly working to hide from Wapol's army and not wanting to fight him, even running away, even LEAVING CHOPPER), whereas Manga! Kureha has an air of invincibility and sharp wisdom from her 130+ years (has no trouble steering clear of Wapol, is calm at the news of him being back and is ready to fight). I don't think it was clear enough that Kureha was not just a good doctor, but the best doctor on the island and possibly the world. Most of all, I can't believe they took away Kureha calling Chopper "my stupid son" at the end and changed it to "you foolish boy".

(I mean, maybe they did that because they realized it'd be a bit weird maybe if Kureha calls Chopper her stupid son after leaving him in the castle to face Wapol alone but then you know what??? You could've just not written that!!! The only reason for that writing choice was so that Kureha would treat Dalton but you could've done that in other ways... we have 20 other doctors after all)

A lot of people argue that Yamato isn't really a man, he just idolizes Oden... but the thing is a lot of Trans people realize they're trans after they idolize someone who presents the gender they want to be. I know so many trans men who idolized men like David Bowie and likewise I know Trans Women who grew up idolizing Lady Gaga or Madonna. They'd dress like them, quote them, read their interviews and biographies... and later on in life they realized they'd idolized them because they embodied the man/woman they wanted to be.

I’m gonna be honest I do not trust anyone who calls themselves part of a “Democratic Tea Party” at fucking all. I am old enough to remember those protestors. I know I have some followers that are like a good bit younger than me, but literally just use google and look at some of those signs to see why I don’t trust that shit. Those people are/were toting Jim Crow-esque caricatures of Black politicians and their families (most often but certainly not exclusively the Obamas) and every antisemitic conspiracy theory under the sun and excuse me if I do not wanna fuck with that.
