The shattered glass and the ripple ooooo I’m so jazzed about your choice of artistic symbolism. It’s delicious! Ruby’s kintsugi. Oscar’s drowning. It’s poignant, simple, and devastating. Excellent work.
Eheheh thank you <3
The shattered glass is supposed to be a riff off the broken weapon case we see Ruby's reflection on in V9.
But if I think about kintsugi with her when that case had swirly vines that look similar to the pattern on Oscar's cane, while gold is a colour constantly attributed to him, I will ramble about it for an hour :D
As for Oscar, the original idea was a nod to The Little Prince in Vacuo. The "what makes the desert beautiful, is that somewhere it hides a well" quote. But also that kid has... a very surprising amount of water symbolism if you know where to look?
The first chore he does in his debut scene is pulling water from a well. Then, his emblem at first glance is two clock gears, at second glance is two sun wheels, and at third glance is two water wheels. The word "merge" being from the Latin root mergere: to dip, plunge, or drown; to immerse oneself. Oscar as a name also is a type of fish.
And there's more if you start looking at it through the "foil to Ruby" lens with the subtle pattern of fire symbolism they keep giving her.
Idk where I'm going with this but I am forever rotating these two in my mind.
also idk if it still notifies that ur ask has been answered if I saved it as a draft before posting, so I am going to tag you, @st-whalefall, just in case.
