This past weekend The Iron Yard was excited to be a part of the First Annual St. Pete Maker Fest. The idea of a Maker Fest and the Maker Movement is to create and showcase innovation in our local community. As described by the St. Pete Makers, the nonprofit organization was "formed as a way for builders, makers, and artists to network, give back to their community, and strengthen the local economy through advanced manufacturing." There was everything from crafts, robotics, drones, and various types of art.
When The Iron Yard decided to participate in the event, we joked that we are making amazing developers. But really, we are making skilled programmers that are solving problems through their craft of coding. Our code academy is dedicated to training the highest-quality developers in the world, and we strive to teach them the tools of the trade and then go out into the world and make a positive impact.
The Iron Yard in Tampa - St. Pete just had our first class of graduates present their applications to the tech community at our Demo Day. Each student proved their dedication to the craft and made apps to improve people's lives. A few to highlight:
Michael Scriven's created an app to help counselors and school teacher's easily schedule events and meetings. Shannon Wynn created Relatively Speaking, a personalized social networking app for family to stay connected.
