Trees. Stachyurus praecox is a most unusual, yet stunning early flowering small tree/large shrub. Ideally suited to woodland beds, but grows problem free in full sun to part shade. The pendant racemes of flowers are just so elegant and beautiful. Spring is an interesting time of year working at a garden. You rush to wrap up winter projects and get down mulch before everything pops out of the ground. You dig up, divide and transplants before the heat starts to set in. With so much to do it seems like it should be a stressful time. But when everything starts popping up and looks so good, for the moment at least, you can help but feel reinvigorated. This spring bloomer, Stachyurus praecox, is one of my favorite nonnative shrub. It is covered in beautiful flowering racemes that look like string of green pearls covering the plant. If you want to check out this or other beautiful plants at the garden let me know.
