IDK if i see the lesbian connection not that it’s impossible, but that might be because I really really like that Glinda stuck to her decision to go her own path where she felt safe, because the two girls choosing their own paths created the two most emotional moments of the entire musical—Defying Gravity, and the heartwrenching For Good.
Now when I’m grown I really really dislike the song As Long as Your Mine because I see no romantic connection between them, just “heat of the moment” lust. Who the hell cares if Fiyero hunted her down, it was wrong and shitty of him. And boo to him by saying “NO GLINDA CAN’T KNOW NO ONE CAN KNOW” like shut up Fiyero you know absolute shit; you never really cared for Glinda and that wasn’t fair to her. (And really? “For the first time I feel wicked”? That should be a sign to fucking stop—that it isn’t born out of something deeper than just lust. GOD I hate Fiyero so much now…His relationship with Elphaba isn’t straight up unhealthy, but it’s not healthy either. It’s not good. It doesn’t feel like anything. Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship is stronger than whatever petty feelings they had for Fiyero and they proved that in “For Good”, and yet Fiyero still got the spotlight for it instead of their friendship…he wasn’t just a twobit character—AGH anyways)
imho Elphaba should’ve died at the end—it would be absolutely heartbreaking yes, but it was what I was expecting but I got some hackneyed lovers-run-off ending instead. Glinda deserved to know that Elphaba was alive. Together, she and Elphaba could’ve kept each other safe even if one was in hiding.
It comes…Wicked has started to mean a lot more to me now that I have several extremely, extremely strong friendships between me and another female friend—friendships spanning over years and every horrible moment in our lives as well as the best. (Come on guys there are better ways to describe fights between friends than having some GUY/romance be the “kingpin” of it.)
I kind of also want to see platonic friendships stronger than romance just as much as I want to drown in a waterfall of lesbians, so a lot of this is from that too.
