❝ hey ! ❞ she’s fighting her way through the crowd. pushing past the hoard of students all rushing into the quidditch stands, all on a mission to get the best seat. lily’s in no rush. the less time she has to spend sat on those old, rickety wooden seats, where she could feel the fixture sway with every gust of wind, the better. but that day, on a crisp autumn afternoon, she had a particular reason for taking her time.
❝ james ! ❞ it had taken some practice to stop calling him potter. old habits die hard. but they’re partners now, head boy and girl. the school would fall to ruins if they couldn’t, at the very least, be civil with each other. and as it had turned out, being friends with james potter wasn’t quite so bad. he wasn’t the arrogant toe-rag she once thought, and accused him of being. not that she had said that to his face yet, she didn’t want to inflate his head again.
finally, she catches up to him. an arm outstretched so she could tap him on the shoulder. really get his attention, since her shouting had seemed to fall on death ears. at least, she hoped it was the loud chatter of the crowd that had drowned out her own voice, and not that he was ignoring her. ❝ i just wanted to say good luck.❞ there’s a hesitant quirk of her lips, almost a smile. ❝ we’re all — i’m rooting for you.❞
