He was a huge fan of westerns. After he became a success, his company, Stan Laurel Productions, financed a series of low-budget musical westerns starring singing cowboy Fred Scott. The films were made for and released by the independent Spectrum Pictures rather than Hal Roach Studios, which made Laurel's and Oliver Hardy's films, or MGM, which released them. The Scott westerns seldom, if ever, made any money, but Laurel's enthusiasm for them never waned. When his accountants showed him that they were getting to be a major drain on his finances, he reluctantly dropped them.

I SERIOUSLY think his “co-star” in all of these was Jack Black...I got to looking at more of the stills and pics and “Jack Black” is in a lot of them...LOL!!

Stan and Mae Laurel:

Mae Laurel was legally married to someone in her native Australia when she met Stan in 1918. She and Stan lived as a common-law couple. They parted in 1925 by mutual consent, and Mae returned to Australia.

Auburn haired, blue eyed and hot-headed Australian actress with a temperamental personality, who travelled to America and starred in a few silent comedies with her common-law husband Stan Laurel. Although the two were never legally married (which came from her inability to gain a divorce from her husband at the time*) she still sought alimony from him several years later after her return to the States.  Many in the business claimed that she selfishly held Stan's career back. She made the claim that it was her idea that Stan Laurel adopt the name of "Laurel". *Her husband was Rupert William Cuthbert (b. 11 April 1880; d. 10 May 1935, Brooklyn, NY).  His parents were Rupert John Cuthbert and Jessie Anderson. Real name: May Charlotte Dahlberg Height: 5'6"

**I watched a documentary at some point that said she and Stan were looking through a book and came across a picture of Romans with “Laurels” in their hair and she was the one who suggested that he change his last name to that and he agreed and she took it on as her own last name. Also, that they fought like cats and dogs.  That I can believe.  They both were pretty hotheaded and I’m sure it was NOT a quiet household.**

STAN Facts...from a Stan 7!

Stan's famous hairstyle was created by accident. He and Oliver Hardy had shaved their heads to play convicts in The Second 100 Years (1927). His hair grew back very unevenly and refused to stay down. Others on the Roach lot laughed, so Stan began to cultivate the new look. Offscreen, he combed it straight back, as did Hardy.

Stan Laurel: Pioneered The Original Bedhead!!  

Here’s the thing, though: While the term bedhead is relatively recent, the concept itself has a tangled history that reaches back hundreds of years. Footloose being one of Stan’s favorite movies, he actually learned to do the dances watching the movie repeatedly by himself. It’s one of his favorite things to do when he’s alone

Stan is an absolute baby when he’s sick. He refuses mouth kisses (for a multitude of reasons) but he’s clingy and cuddly and will tuck himself as close as humanly possible.
