Mushkegowuk Grand Chief Stan Louttit, a James Bay leader who has been involved in First Nations politics for more than 30 years has passed away. Mason and I had the pleasure of getting to know him 2 summers ago during the 3 weeks we spent in Moose Factory, he was truly an inspiring person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. One moment in particular I remember was when he was talking to us about how treaty 9 was made and about the Indian act and residential schools, how all these things were meant to get rid of the “Indians” then he slammed his fist on the table and shouted “WELL WE ARE STILL HERE!”
Remember, we are still here.
