Beautiful smell on the front verandah! It’s our Stanhopea (Stanhopea Tigrina) this is an orchid that’s native to Mexico. These epiphytic, but occasionally terrestrial orchids can be found in damp forests from Mexico to Trinidad to NW Argentina. They have a pseudobulb with one long elliptic leaf. Stanhopea has complex and really fragrant flowers that are spectacular and short-lived. The flowers come out of the bottom of the containers that they grow in, making them easy to grow in baskets that have enough open space for the flowers to push through. They are sometimes called upside-down orchids. The amazing thing about this is the enormous size of the unopened bud. It’s as big as a small mango. #fragrant #Orchid #StanhopeaTigrina #foliage #UpsideDownOrchid #dappled #Mexico #CentralAmerica #epiphite #abcmygarden #easycare #hardy (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmyE3mPPeaK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
