Lisa Eilbacher. Clever, fast-moving and fun!

Richie is hired for an innocuous job: bid on a car. But he’s being lied to, and before long he’s in jail (having been in a lengthy car chase). His client’s daughter tells him a crazy story, he washes his hands of the whole thing, then she gets kidnapped...

This one really pulls you in from the get-go. We know something isn’t right about Richie being asked to bid on an antique automobile. And the fun for us is in waiting for the crap to hit the fan.

Richie is brilliant in this. Aside from the fact that - at the end - he is smart to figure out what is really going on, we end up admiring the guy because he’s plucky. He’s amiable, yes, but he really won’t take crap from people (even when they clearly disrespect him) and when he says he’s not working on the case anymore... he means it.

He’s also a fast-talker. Like Jim Rockford.

Dennis Dugan is a joy to watch in the role. Funny, likeable, dignified.

The story is good, not great. It’s convoluted and doesn’t really hang together perfectly. Especially with regard to the sale of the car at the beginning. Knowing what we know at the end, the start doesn’t quite work.

Standout performance from Stanley Brock, in a downbeat and sobering story about vigilantism.

The best thing here is Brock’s performance as the arrogant, cocky guy who puts up posters offering a reward for anyone who shoots a criminal. But, across the board, the guest cast are strong.

The story moves quite slowly, getting bogged down in the middle with a lot of repetitive shouting back and forth between Rosten and Cotterman. But the silence that descends - upon news arriving, from the hospital, of the man’s death - is quality drama.
